Triathlons in China and Hong Kong

Anybody ever do a Triathlon in Mainland China or Hong Kong? How were the races? Is there any schedule of upcomming races there. I travel there and have some flexibility in planning my travel dates and can work around the races dates to correspond with travel. Any feedback???

Hi Rusty,

The HK Triathlon Association usually does a good job of listing events and results. http://www.triathlon.com.hk/

If there are any races in China they would probably be organized as part of the Asia Cup Series and would be listed on the HK Tri Assoc. site.

I believe the series kicks off next year with the President Cup race in Taiwan around March 25.

I have done a few races in Mainland China, all were well run and fun, they get all the school kids out and they are cheering all along the course everywhere. The best race was the one IMG put on in Hainan, the last few years, they didn’t do it this year but say it will be back next year. It’s a destination race, on the island. When I was there Peter Reid said it was like staying in Maui but for 1/4 the cost. The host hotel is a 4 star Holiday Inn resort, and the rooms ran $75 to $100 per night breakfast included. The biggest problem I have seen so far was their officials are ITU trained and they have difficultly sometimes understanding that the rules for Pros and Age Groupers are different, they usually have to be reminded bar end shifters and aerobars are ok for age groupers.
