Hello everyone. I typically post over on Runner’s World under this same name, but I like to lurk here and I’ve found you all very helpful. =) I also overheard some forumites at a tri last weekend talking about posting here, so I decided it’s time for me to post too!
I was looking at triathlon camps or vacations. I did a search, but only came up with a couple results. I am wondering about the Triathlon Academy’s 9 day or 4 day intense training camps. Has anyone done them? Are you planning to next March? Any major complaints or praises? Here is their site: http://www.triathlonacademy.com/tucson10.asp
If anyone knows of any other great places to train, in an organized camp or just great spots in the U.S., please let me know! Thanks…
I was there last year. It was really nice to train in Tuscon in march when it was still cold here in Cincy. It jumpstarted my season. I hadn’t been riding outside, I struggled a bit, I was too slow for the fast group and too fast for the slow group. It is well ran, well organized. I felt on vacation and got good training in. The crowd was well diversified and older I would say. Some faster and some very slow and new…Let me know if you have more questions…I would recommend a training camp, I am definitly going to a few this year, not sure about that one again because my coach is putting a few on… I was reading about this club med one in jan, anyone done that one? VERY expensive…
Thank you, marisol! This is exactly the kind of info I was hoping for.
Was everything group-oriented, or did you have some alone time during the day? Was everyone there an Ironman or training for an Ironman? The longest distance I’ve done is a half-Ironman, though a full one is a long-term goal for me. It’s nice to hear that there was a good level of athletic diversity.
Did you need to rent a car while you were there? Also, where there bike mechanics people who could help me re-assemble my bike after packing it up and shipping it down there? Sadly, I don’t know how to do that myself yet.
Finally, how early did you wake up and go to bed each day, approximately? And if you have time, could you give me a rough idea what a typical day’s schedule would be like?
Thank you for the info you’ve given me so far! I read about the Club Med one, as well! That sounds amazing!! I’m thinking about doing RnR AZ marathon again this year, though, so I wouldn’t be able to do another vacation that soon after. =)
Hi there,
We’ve just finalized the date for our winter training camp, February 25-27, 2005 in Clermont, FL. That’s about 25 minutes from all the Disney attractions and 30 minutes from Orlando. You can click here for all the details. (It’s a MS Word document). Keep it in mind when you’re looking around and maybe we’ll see you there!
