I have hit that time again where I can’t stand my job and would LOVE to actually do a job I LOVE. Like everyone, I hear about how great it is to own your own business and all that so I was thinking of a business I would actually enjoy running. Well of course Triathlon is top of the list.
Has anyone ever seen or read about a triathlon franchise?? There are tons of restaurant franchises but I have never seen a triathlon store that was one…or even a cycling shop for that matter.
I believe John Cobb did it a couple years ago.
SBR in this country is expanding rapidly as well…

I don’t know if all the stores are corporate or if any are individually owned.
Keep your job (as sucky as it may be) and start drinking to cope. From what I’ve seen very few shop owners are living the good life like they imagined when they wrote their first business plan (assuming they even have a business plan). The margins are too small, compared to other retail, so in my mind a better investment would be elsewhere. There is something to be said for doing what you love but we need to make a living. The shop where I work the owners wife is abandoning us and getting a real job after the holidays. Best of luck with whatever you decide.
Believe me I understand about the money thing. That is what has kept me doing this for the last 10 years. They must not be too profitable since you don’t see triathlon shops popping up like crazy. Where I live there are a few bike shops but they are all 30 minutes from my city…

Nope. But then I’ve never really even seen a triathlon store. What we have around here is bike shops that sell triathlon bikes and stuff for bikes and occasionally wetsuits. We also have running stores that sell tri stuff, like clothes. I have not seen a tri specific store that sells all items for the swim, bike and run. Unless it was located where tris can be held year-round, it would have too limited of a market.
