Triathlon Races and Standards

In light of the two recent threads on course accuracy, I make the following self resolutions - and urge the rest of you to do the same.

I resolve to undertake the follow actions during the 2012 triathlon season, and the remainder of the 2011 triathlon season:

1> Purchase a digital thermometer, with which I will measure the water tempeture is a semi-offical fashion prior to every race.
2> I will ensure that my bike computer is adequtely calibrated to ensure an accurate distance.
3> I will do my best to ensure that my GPS watch has a signal prior to beginning the run course.

Should i participate in a race next year that allows a wetsuit despite my tempeture reading showing they should not be allowed - I will scream bloody murder on slowtwitch.

Should I observe that a race has a bike or run course that is not reasonably accurate - either significantly long or significantly short based on the advertised distance based on tools available - I shall also scream bloody murder on slowtwitch.

Should I observe that a swim course appears to have been significantly long or short based on the tools at my disposal - I shall again scream bloody murder on slowtwitch.

I do this in an effort to encourage race directors to improve the quality of our sport, increase the reliability of course records, world records, and world bests - and I encourage you all to do the same.

Please be sure to take several temperature readings and measure the course multiple times befor you “Scream Bloody Murder” We would not want any over reaction.

Here are some tools to help you get started.
