Triathlon race speedo

Who currently makes them? I’m hoping for one with padding or there will be a huge relying on the chammy. I’m guessing I’ll be going that route regardless. I have checked Speedos website but no luck.

.

Thanks…that could be tough to wear.

You can find some new old-stock from Speedo on eBay usually. I wear one of those under my trisuit because the Champ Sys elite suit doesn’t have a pad in it.

how about the opposite route and put a neoprene seat cover on your bike?

as long as you have a good saddle and the right bike fit, comfort shouldn’t be a problem.
if you have any questions, do not hesitate.
thx.

I race in one, but it is an old Orca one. You cant find them anymore, I have tried. I did IM Boulder this year in it and because it is old, I dont train in it anymore, just save it for the races.

I would not go with the Kiwami Tri one (sorry). I have it and tried it out this past season, but it is not constructed well. The padding is so baggy that it feels like swimming/riding/running in a wet diaper. I dont even use it for normal swim practice anymore (much less race in it).

If I were you, a normal speedo will do. You really dont need much padding if you seat is comfortable and the fit is right. Plus the more padding on the run, the more uncomfortable it will be. I think what helps with me too, is I ride pretty aggressively anyway, so there is not much contact with the seat anyway.

Andre, your tri brief is just not crafted enough for me or for me to recommend. If you are making another version, I have some ideas on how you can make it better.

  1. It is too thick. Get rid of some of the padding and thin it out.
  2. It is too big. It is built like a cycling chamois and goes too far up the back side. Redesign it with the aero riding position in mind. You only need padding to go up your backside a little ways. IF you held the suit up and was looking at the rear, cut the material down a good two inches (at least).
  3. The stitching is not tight enough. It is really baggy between the chamois and the actual suit material. Which makes it feel like a soggy diaper. This makes it feel like a slow drag suit in the water. And on the run it makes the suit sag in the back.
Sorry and not trying to be too critical. I own the suit and just can not recommend it to others.

I wore a speedo for the first time in a race this season and got a lot of high fives from the older triathletes. If you need motivation to wear it, then watch this.

EDIT: That is me in the speedo.

Haha. I got tons of support too. Kept getting race updates (your in 2nd in the Speedo division). Also I got a special shout out from Mike Reilly when finishing for rocking the speedo old school style.

If you choose a non-padded brief, pay close attention to seam placement. some of them have a seam in a very bad spot. Very bad.

I have been in deep debate on becoming a member of the budgie smuggler club over the past couple of seasons…and your video has sealed the deal. Simply amazing, and all i can picture is Will Ferrel’s flag routine in Old School when i hear that song…i wanna prance like that coming out of the water!

If it’s just a sprint, no need to worry about padding. You’ll be fine for short distances.

I’ve never felt more like a bad ass passing people with wetsuits when all I was wearing, was the speedo.
