The fiancee and I are considering a move to the Carbondale, CO area. I know the cycling and nordic skiing in the area are phenomenal, but how about the tri scene? Anything out that way or is it all back in Denver/Boulder?

Glenwood Springs used to have one, not sure if they still do. Have you looked at the Rocky Mtn Sports Mag? I don’t know their web site but they have their calandar up right now.
I think Aspen had one as well, but not sure.

edit to add: RACERX lives in gypsum, you might want to pm him.
Xterra in Beaver Creek? Its close (ish).
I live in Silverthorne and have to come down to Denver/Boulder for races.
I haven’t really looked much of anywhere yet. We’re just beginning to consider the move. And I don’t really know what is where, so I have to google each town name so I can figure out where it even is (I had to look up gypsum).
Not that NJ is triathlon Mecca, but I have multiple races within 2 hours to choose from nearly every weekend during the summer. Schlepping 3 hours to Denver for a sprint may stretch my love of tri. Looks like I’ll need to get a mt. bike and some skis.
With the exception of the occasional local sprint or off-road tri, it’s going to be pretty thin in Western CO. I am in Durango and we have two community sprint tris, but everything else is a considerable drive: Denver/Boulder, Flagstaff, Albuquerque, Phoenix or Salt Lake.
That said, there is a lot of road biking to be done, and the race scene for that in Carbondale/Glenwood might not be too bad. But you don’t usually move to Western CO looking for these kinds of things; most activity is of the outdoor non-competitive nature (skiing, climbing, biking, etc…)
Looking at Tri-find, I found the following events on the Western Slope for this year:
Grand Junction has a sprint June 6.
Pagosa has a duathlon on July 11.
Leadville has a sprint and a du on July 19.
I also know there are the 2 races in Durango (April and August) and a September Olympic in Salida.
All of the above are still going to be at least 2 hours from Carbondale. However, in the summer Denver isn’t really that far, maybe 3.5 hours, and there are a ton of races in Denver/Boulder.
Such WONDERFUL memories from when I lived outside of Glenwood (off 82 above Colorado Mountain College)…I worked in Basalt. ahhh…
Glenwood still had their triathlon last I checked. My sister-in-law & 2 brother-in-laws still live there.
GRACIOUS…I miss it!
In addition to what others have said.
Grand Junction has a new Olympic in September;

Scofield has an olympic and ultimate in July (2 hour drive)

5430 used to put on a sprint in Steamboat, looks like that will not happen this year though.
Montrose has a sprint in the fall. (black canyon)
Otherwise you have to travel; 3.5-4 hours to Boulder/Denver, 4 hours Salt Lake area, 8 hours to Vegas area.

Thanks to all for the information and resources. I’m only racing about a half dozen times a year or less, so I think I’ll be able to get my fix. I’ll just need to plan a little better. That, and learn some new sports.

No! Just learn to ski. Be prepared to get your butt kicked hardcore by lots of people out here - I’ve been skiing for more than 10 years, and had a 11 year old and a 70 year old make a fool of me in the same day.
The Front Range (FoCo-Boulder-Denver) has some sweet races. Lots of 'em are low key, all of 'em are fun. Really, if you drive down the night before and stay with a friend, you’ll have a great time.
