I am in the market for new triathlon specific cycling shoes. I had Sidi T2’s for a looooong time so I began my search with Sidi only to find their color options a little off. I am not into the Italian color scheme or textured snakeskin patterns! But if all else fails, I will go back to them. There are so many shoes, it’s hard to know if I have looked at all of them. I have a wide foot and I will be using speedplay pedals. What shoes do you think I should take a look at? Has anyone has success with Bont? (http://www.bont.com/cycling/)
I have a wide foot (and use Speedplays too) and have LG shoes. Can’t remember the model name (I’ve had them for 4 years) but they were their mid range shoe. They work fine.
I have used the magic Tri race to great success with my wider feet on speedplays. Super comfy, stiff, and drain extremely well. I used them in my recent ironman with no socks and had no hot spots or blisters! Highly recommend them! Try them on at an LBS and them order online for MUCH cheaper!
After trying on several pairs of Shimano and Pearl Izumi (none of which fit me properly) I tried on a Bontrager RXL Hilo and it fit like a champ. Super-light, well ventilated, and no hotspots on me. This is one of those products I never feel the need to upgrade.
Obviously fit is going to be extremely important in this case. I’m able to use socks or go barefoot with my fit.
Lake makes very nice shoes and they offer a speedplay specific sole, so no adapter. I don’t know how the width sizing is, but they are definitely too wide for my very narrow feet…
I’ve used them as my road shoes for 3 years and this season am using the Vaypor xc for cross. They are incredibly stiff, but fit me better than any shoe I’ve ever worn.
Yeah dude, if you want to take a shot on sizing and order online then go for it. But to go to the LBS to try on everything then buying online = total d bag move, IMO.

Did you mean that to come out as “Be a total asshole!” Because that’s what I heard.
I believe, if we are to quote from The Rules:
Going into your local shop, asking myriad inane questions, tying up the staff’s time, then going online to buy is akin to sleeping with your best friend’s wife, then having a beer with him after.
I have Bont sub 8s and have no complaints. I use Sidi 5.5 carbons on my road bike. The fit is similar, so similar in fact that I haven’t felt the need to heat my Bonts up in the oven and custom mold them. I think I got mine discounted on either Chain Love (before they changed the name) or Department of Goods. Can’t remember which. Running Speedplays with a single angled shim on the right side.
I also have a pair of Lake Speedplay specific shoes. I have a pretty high instep and the Lake shoe’s velcro strap is so short on me, I can barely fasten it with enough hook and loop to feel secure.
