just noticed this new forum… what is it’s motivation and/or purpose?
Shhhh, The first rule of Triathlon club is, you don’t talk about Triathlon club!!
where is it? I see tri, lavendar, womens, classifieds, jobs
i will cross-post what i wrote on another thread asking this question:
it’s a development thing, in anticipation of something we’re planning. it has to do with tri clubs. our plans with tri clubs are as follows:
-
we’re developing a club database, just like our database of retail stores. we’ll catalogue and upkeep info on all the tri clubs around north america (my hope is to do masters swim teams on the same database, we’ll see).
-
a relatively large tri club that’s asked us to help them out on something. they have a very strong website, all the utilities, a nice reader forum. the problem is, nobody goes to their forum. they all hang out on slowtwitch. but if they post something on the slowtwitch forum that’s regional and specific to their club (a ride on saturday, let us say), it’s gone off the front page in 60 minutes. so they’ve asked us to build for them a special forum, just for them, and hang it onto the slowtwitch forum.
jordan and i thought that if we do this for one club, we ought to make it generally available. we’ll put a toggle on the main forum that opens a drop down menu to tri club forums, and then we’ll host these forums just like we host, say, the women’s forum.
so, these two initiatives – a club database, and the hosting of a club’s own forum – that’s what we’ve got planned. the team xantusia thing you’re seeing is just us working out the optics of these club forum listings.
It doesn’t have it’s own little icon at the top, but shows up in the list if you go there.

Thanks, I don’t think I would of found that.
sounds very cool. great idea.
I can see potential for some fun challenges and/or smack talk between clubs - always a good thing - as well as clubs being able to take “best practices” from clubs in other regions making them better for everyone.
I can see it being a big help for getting local info and training partners when traveling. Or would we have to register for each club’s forum seperately?
“Or would we have to register for each club’s forum seperately?”
one slowtwitch registration, and one log in, gets you into everything. but each club’s designates would moderate that club’s forum. i think one of the benefits, for clubs, is that club membership in general, nationwide, would tick up, because folks in each town would become familiar with the club(s) in that town, if the club had a forum here.
