Triathlon Camp announcement

THE INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN TRIATHLON NETWORK INVITES YOU TO ….

The ICTN Triathlon / Endurance Sports Camp

Friday Morning – Sunday Noon, January 27-29, 2006 in Phoenix, AZ

WHO: All endurance athletes, runners, cyclists, duathletes, triathletes, etc. Also, spouses, race directors, coaches and anyone else who wants to attend are more than welcome to come.

WHAT: A 2 1/2 day Spiritual / Physical training camp. We’ll have great times together of spiritual encouragement through large group sessions where we’ll enjoy fellowship, singing, testimonies, networking and teaching. We have four pastors coming who have all completed Ironman distance triathlons and who will bring inspirational messages to encourage us in the race of life. You will also learn how to help other endurance athletes know where they are in their spiritual journey by using a booklet that is specific to triathlon and easy for any triathlete to understand. To see a copy go to www.StepUpToLife.com and click on “booklet languages” and scroll down to “Triathlete booklet.”

We’ll also have clinics/workshops, coaching and training (running, biking, swimming, resistance training, stretching, etc.) with some of the nation’s best endurance coaches and with some of the world’s best pros. This will be an awesome opportunity to further yourself in this sport and to learn from, and be coached by, some of the best.

WHY: The ICTN is not a ministry itself but is a network of ministries and individuals. It is an umbrella under which everyone can gather to build friendships, learn from each other and encourage one another. The ICTN Steering Committee feels that an annual, Christ-centered, national high quality camp will be a great way to do this. As far as we know there is nothing like this available at this time in the USA.

**Nov**.** 25 – Dec. 31** price goes up to $95.00

Call Kevin for more information – 480-421-9442. (You do not HAVE to bring your bike. You can run and/or swim and attend all the sessions and still greatly benefit from this camp.)

FINALLY – IF YOU CAN COME…OR…IF YOU CANNOT COME, Please – FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE THAT YOU THINK MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN ATTENDING.

Let’s spread the word about the only Christ Focused Triathlon National Camp in the nation!

Looking forward to seeing you in January in the beautiful Phoenix Valley!

Sounds like a great deal and opportunity for growth. Who are the Pastors that are coming?

Kevin

So just to be clear, they wont be passing out condoms in your goodie bag like at the Olympics, right.

Are Buddhist, Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, Jain or Zoarastrian Triathletes welcome ?

"Are Buddhist, Sikh, Hindu, Muslim, Jain or Zoarastrian Triathletes welcome ? "

How about Agnostics?

Seriously, I see nothing wrong with like minded people, in this case people with similiar religious values, getting together, but I don’t see the connection between God and sport.

Those of you who are baiting the originator with the “Sikhs, agnostics, etc” are in the wrong here. In my view this is a passive-aggressive cheap shot.

Of course they would be welcome at a Christian gathering…

But I ask, why would they want to come? To learn more about Christ while sharing in athletic development…? Unlikely. There are plenty of camps that are not religiously oriented available for them.

If this is a shot at the “shameless marketing plug” then state that. Otherwise, shame on you for introducing an underhanded religious controversy on what appears to be an admittedly Christian, but non-denominational camp to improve both the physical performance and the spiritual fitness of the attendees.

Buddists? Yes.
Sikh? Of course.
Hindu? Without doubt.
Muslim? I see no reason why not.
Jain? Unquestionably.
Zoarastrian? Are you fucking crazy? No way.

Kevin,

I am not sure I know the names of all 4, but here are the three pastors I do know will be there:

Linc Murdoch; competed in Hawaii a few years back and wrote a book on it called See You At the Finish. He is involved in The Anitoch Network (they do church-planting in 3rd World) and leads a church (All Nations) in Peoria, AZ.

Scott Bennefield, who is administrative pastor at Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque. Tinley wrote a piece about Scott in Triathlete mag a few years back: http://www.novafca.org/img/assets/1114/Tinley_Talks_article_1.jpg

Dan Perkins, who qualified for Kona at IMAZ in M45-49, is a pastor at Southwest Community Church in La Quinta, CA. http://www.novafca.org/Triathletes.html#Perkins

Looks like there will be some chatter about this on ST. There is a spiritual angle, to be sure, but the message we’re passing along to folks is that all are welcome. Mark’s just posting as an FYI, just to capitalize on the forum as a quick/easy way to get the word out to some folks we know who surf ST and also to some folks maybe we don’t already know; we’re not trying to marginalize, ostracize, or criticize in anyway anybody who wouldn’t be interested in/go for this.

Thanks Stan. I am looking for the best airline rate from Kentucky to Phoenix right now. Sounds like an awesome weekend.

Kevin
