just curious to know how many out there are competing in triathlon with this damn problem Spondylolisthesis.
In 2011 I have been diagnosed with a serious L3-L4 Spondylolisthesis and since then triathlon is something painful but I love it and I do it anyway.
Lot of troubles when I get out of the water and running is not like it was before. Cycling is 80% of the times perfect. Actually cycling helps for a better initial running feeling.
I would be glad if somebody wants to share his/her way of dealing with it in triathlon and if any suggestion to relieve some pain.
I’ve had it all my life, born with spondylolysis in my L5. It caused me to have to switch from a contact sport like playing football to running cross country in school, which in hindsight was probably the best thing for me! When I first got into triathlon it bothered me quite a bit, especially in aero on the bike and sometimes while swiming. I started working with a chiropractor and regular massage it gradually got better. Then I added yoga and some strength training and honestly barely notice it today. A good bike fit helped as well, I only notice it now after long hours in aero pushing on the bike, but once I’m off it goes away. I’ve always found the key is a strong core. If you can do some training to help build up your core muscles then it should improve. Hope some of this helps.
