Whenever someone posts about the latest and greatest tri mag bimbo, I sometimes shake my head. Every one of those little girls has been a distant second to Allison Roe. Man, I hope this works. Are you guys in for a treat!
Her first ever triathlon over here was my race at Bonelli Park, The Los Angeles Triathlon Series. She was a class lady, and looked even better in person. Too bad she didn’t follow up and stay in the sport. Too good a runner I guess… She would also have had to contend with Erin Baker in her little country. That would have been tough…
A different level than Allison Roe perhaps, but this reminds me abit of Sarah Docter from Madison, WI. She was part of the speed-skating group that included her sister Mary and Eric and Beth Heiden. After leaving speed-skating, she briefly took up triathlon in the midwest and smoked everyone, but eventually decided she didn’t like replacing one kind of self-imposed sporting pressure with another and left the sport. She was a terrific athlete.
I still have that issue somewhere down in my basement. It was 2 years before I did my first tri, but I was already buying the tri-rags ! Allison Roe was quite the athlete !
