Triathlete recommended accomodation globally

I thought I would start a thread , that could be easily “searched” when necessary for all of us , when travelling , globally. If anybody recommends the thread " headline" to be ammended , I’d be happy to do so.

Please list :

  • your town or city , IN BOLD.

  • and 3 recommended accomodations with GENERAL price guidelines and BRIEF description ( if possible ).

for example: ( These are strictly hypothetical examples )

VANCOUVER , CANADA

  • The Four Seasons $$$$$ ( lap pool , gym , near parks , healthy food nearby ).

  • The Holiday Inn $$$ ( Small gym , pool nearby , close to running track and university facilities ).

  • Motel 6 $( University next door and park , running machine available in gym , jacuzzi ).

If done properly , this could be a great reference for all of us.

Thanks and a great weekend to all !

Ride safe.

Bump.

Got one i would reccomend:

PARIS:

  • Citadines Paris Les Halles - appartmenthotel, ~130 euro, close to parks and a great 50m lap pool situated in Les Halles.

That’s the way to get the ball rolling Frederik , thank you.

i was really impressed with the Westin Chosun ($$$$) when in SEOUL a few months ago:

great gym (free to hotel guests), deserted indoor 25m lap pool, organised 5 & 10km runs (the lobby even has refrigerated bottled water & cold towels for your return), free mobile phone rental with room, cool Irish bar (O’Kims!) & fantastic central city location. Pricey tho…

i like the Swissotel ($$$$) whenever I’m in SINGAPORE too:

another great gym (free), very cool bars & restaurants, popular with flight crews (air hostesses), MRT station directly beneath. Again, quite pricey…and crap pool (for lap swimming)!

These two stand out as some of the more “athlete friendly” hotels…I’ve stayed in MUCH worse.

Of course, if any STers needed a place to stay in AUCKLAND they’re welcome to crash on our couch…be warned our staffy terrier licks sweaty legs & feet!

edit: sorry Canuck, i kinda missed the point of your OP…but i did change the cities to upper case…cheers

Terry, which uni are the 6 of Hol Inn next to? USBC or Simon Fraser? Or are these hypothetical examples? I could do with a motel6 for my next visit to Vancouver.

Chattanooga, TN

I actually have created a whole blog with info for active people about Chattanooga, because I always find it tough to get such info when I travel. Included in that blog are, hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, places to run, places to ride, list of bike shops and even things to do for the family.

Litespeed / Quintana Roo

You should add this info to slowtwiki.

Someone needs to add info about the various race destinations Lake Placid, Madison, Penticton, etc.

…bump… more info?!

Traverse City, MI

The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa

Rooms or Condo’s available $$$-$$$$- 3 pools including indoor 25yd lap lanes, health club, miles of running/biking trials, access to crystal clear Grand Travers Bay for open water swimming. Truely beautiful Spring, Summer and Fall. Great local dining and world class golf (if you need a few hours off).

Although I am originally from BC those are merely examples Julian . I am sure our Vancouver friends would be able to post more accurate accomodation info. I live in Singapore and usually stay in the Pan Pacific , Waterfront , Hotel Vancouver , Hyatt and Four Seasons when visiting , primarily due to location and my wifes shopping desires

These hotels are not really suitable for a lot of people , because in essence they are really more than a roof over your head to get a couple of zzzzz’s. I am sure Vancouver has a lot of fantastic hotels in different price brackets.

I will see how the thread is doing on Monday and post some SINGAPORE and possibly other South East Asian venues.

Great weekend to all and for those that have contributed , thank you

Terry, I got the fact that they were examples, but wanted to know if they were hypothetical examples or examples that existed. I guess the former.

I would recommend bed and breakfasts in most cities I’ve travelled in in BC and Alberta. The people are usually very friendly, and the last place I stayed in (Wee Scottish Inn in Jasper, AB) the owner was a very serious athlete and had great recommendations for good eats, pool, etc… I’ve found costs are usually half what a regular (3 star) hotel is.

A bonus is that you can request a healthy breakfast from most places!

Sorry , I missed the point :frowning:

Hypothetical. Thanks for asking Julian , cheers.

Thanks to those who have put in the effort to post !

My Big Island contribution would be the Rainbow Plantation at Captain Cook, about 10-15 minutes drive South. Superb surroundings on a unique “eco-conscious” ex mac-nut and coffee farm. The freshly baked banana bread and either Mango, Papaya or passion fruit from their trees served on the Lanii(sp?) looking through the canopy to the sea is incredible. A very relaxing location for race week or after if you don’t want to move far. Oh, free all you can eat Mac nuts off the trees can be dangerous!

Anybody know anything about London? I’m going there at New Year’s…

Trevor

Holiday Inn in Sanya, Hainan, China is nice, with indoor gym, reasonable pool and access to beach. It’s not as pricey as the Marriott and other nearby accommodations, but it serves food your kids will like and you can still feast on Chinese cuisine.

The last time that I was in London, I stayed at The Montague on Russell Square near the British Museum.

The hotel itself was really nice but it was the location that made it so fantastic for training. I got to run along the Thames tow path every morning and there is a YMCA less than 2 blocks away with a 25m pool.

Cheers,

Miranda

a bump for this… anyone?
