No coverage of the Clear Lake Tri 101 race? Not even a little blurb of who the winners were? I know that you and WTC are thick as thieves, but come on! Maybe I’m missing the link? Maybe I need to refresh my browser?
Front page coverage by Inside Tri and the coverage here on this site yesterday.
They really should call themselves Triathlete Advertising Magazine. Or Ironman Triathlete magazine.
The final straw for me was a couple months ago they were “examining” different sports drinks/hydration and they didn’t look at infinit at all. I mean they had all these other obscure gels/drinks in there but not a mention of a formulation that is totally customizable by the user and growing by leaps and bounds. They are clueless.
Maybe because in the grand scheme of things, the ITU World Cup race in Vancouver is far more significant to everyone else except those on Slowtwitch. They don’t routinely cover all races with around 100 total participants, do they?

No, they cover primarily pro races with good pro fields and big prize purses… I think Clear Lake fit into that category, unless you think the magazines should cover big amateur races, where we recognize no ones name, and the fights are in waves we can’t see, and frankly, don’t really care too much about…
Well maybe inside triathlon should have some coverage of the Eagleman race. Natasha set a new half ironman record and they did not even put it up on the site. How sad is that. Or how about Tollakson ripping off a ridiculous 2:02:45 bike, averaging 27.5 miles per hour. Where is the coverage of this story. To me it is a lot more important than some 101 race where nothing really happened. Since the Vancouver race is going to be the World Championships next year, ya they should have this race covered.
They can not be everywhere.
Clear Lake Tri 101 was the least significant race out of the three.
Ah, but they can cover the GREEN BAY TRI! WOOO!!! (Now before the Wisconsinites get bent–I LOVE THE PACKERS!!! Brett Favre is GOD as was Vince before him.)
Right, the second race in a possible upcoming race series that MAY rival the Ironman series is nothing. Let’s just talk about the IM branded races over and over and over…yaaaaawn.
Clearly they both have their individual biases, strengths and weaknesses. I’m not particularly fond of either one as a standalone magazine, but it’s still better to have two so/so publications than no publications. Anyway, we can usually get better coverage than either of them from someone on ST who is/was there that day!
The Green Bay results were a press release. Maybe if Tri One o One wasn’t thick as thieves with Inside Triathlon, they would have sent one to Triathlete to put up on their website.
I like these magazines. They’re some of the very few out there that I can read everything worth reading before I get to the register, neagting the need to actually buy them.
Markus,
Lets indeed have more ironman race coverage! When does this new competitive race series begin … and is it Nice, 1/2 Nice, or 1/4 Nice now ? I think the coverage was right for less than 100 finishers. That makes it probably the smallest race even being mentioned on ST today.
Dave
What type of coverage are you expecting? It certainly doesn’t hurt when the IT Editor’s wife is racing…
IMO, is the best real time coverage (along with ST Ice Cream truck coverage) around. I’ll check the racer’s blogs for race coverage.
It would be REALLY nice if one of these triathlon magazine’s would set-up a legitimate RSS feed for updates (rather than features).
My point is that the magazine stories are a bit fluffy and perhaps the RD’s should send out a press release so it gets larger coverage (and is RSS enabled).

I’ll take that as a compliment, thanks for that. I get so frustrated with the Ironmanlive coverage( Ironmanlive, but not really), and all their delays, wrong information, and when it does come, it’s just a bunch of placings with no commentary. You would think after all the 100’s of races they have put on, and the attempted coverage of those, that they could at least make it palatable. I don’t even log on anymore it is so bad. The last one was ST Croix, and that’s it for me. I did like the video coverage of Hawaii, they finally got their shit together there, but all the rest is a waste of time. I get way more usefull info just off the forum here, from our hundreds of cub reporters… So in tune with that thought, I always try my best to get accurate info out there, as soon as it happens, because I know a lot of you out there are just like me, and just want to know what the hell is going on out there…I hope that Dan and I can do more of these live coverages in the future…
