I would guess 0, or probably close to that number. Seems like a weird question..
First thing is to get to shore or some sort of floating platform as quick as possible. For me I would be thinking about quickly pulling out my suit string and using it as a tourniquet if that seemed applicable to the bite. Other thing would be to just try and stay as calm as possible, knowing that the usual MO for a shark is to bite and then retreat when it understands you are not a normal meal. In other words don’t panic yourself into a blind frenzy, but look outside that panic and evaluate your situation, and what steps one at a time to give yourself the best chance at survival..
Divers provoke sharks all the time to excite tourist divers. Hand feeding, chum blocks, grabbing the tails, pushing up on the chins, etc…
I would even put fishing in that category. Weather trying to land a shark on the beach or after getting on the boat.

and how many of those deaths in the world do you imagine fit that category?

Nice try, but he asked about attacks, not deaths. Can’t change your question.
What Australian shark attack data shows about decades of bite incidents - ABC News
I am getting lots of messages from my family about swimming in the ocean at the moment. I think I will need to get one of the shark bracelets to give them some peace of mind.
There has been a bunch of shark encounters recently down here.
I think when you bend down to get the rock is when they attack. There’s a wild video from like 5 years ago where one follows a guy for an extended period and he just keeps backtracking and it isn’t until something else scares it off in the woods.
With daylight savings time occurring and training some longer runs, I keep finding myself out just past sunset. Since this attack I’m always looking behind and turning off my headphones to try to be completely aware of my surroundings. Although, if one is stalking me I’m probably in trouble whether I realize it or not.
