Triathlete attacked by Alligator

Just saw this on CNN. With all we have to worry about (cars, dogs) now we need to worry about Alligators…

http://www.clickorlando.com/news/23571432/detail.html

One more reason not to live in Florida…

“FWC officials said this was the first unprovoked alligator attack in Florida this year.”

brilliant.

it’s as if the natural order of the natural food chain doesn’t exist when they don’t want it to.

don’t want to get eaten by an alligator? don’t go into it’s habitat, dumbass.

one uncle of mine (never knew him) was killed by an alligator saving someone else who was taking a swim in a lake who first was attacked by said alligator. the guy he saved lived, uncle never found.

I have done several Tri’s in that lake, wonder if this will hurt the turn out for the next one.

naw, WTC or whomever will annihilate all alligators so you all should be just fine and dandy. sleep well all.

brilliant.

It’s not like this is something new in S. Florida. All the lakes potentially have gators.

I will be back, albeit with a faster swim for sure. I couldn’t tell my wife that this is where I have done some Tri’s. I won an overall here once so how can I exclude it from the schedule eh!

The guy was on the news last night. They introduced him as a “local Triathlete”. My wife said that I could only hope of being on the news with that introduction. Right she is.

I think the race director (“Z” of Buttar)should capitilize on it! T-shirts and all!Rename one of his races too. Escape from Alcatraz…Please, Escape from the Jaws of Lake Mary Jane!! PR swims for everybody but one.

I guess that this is a case where you dont have to be first, just DONT be LAST…

I did it the first year, before they ruined it and made it a sprint.

The buoys were those inflatable rubber alligators. Too funny.

Look at how cute and cuddly the alligator looks on that sign next to you. Sure is a damn shame someone had to die though.

Florida’s alligator population has exploded in the last 3 decades, but attacks are rare.
Rare, considering there is an alligator for every 30 people in the state. Most of the attacks are during May, mating month.
Be cautious in May. Oh yea, and don’t assume your safe in the ocean.
One day at FSU’s marine lab, I saw one swim by in the Gulf surf.

Who died? The guy that got attacked lived. Alhtough lots of peeps do die from gator attacks. Mostly the guys that dive for golf balls. They should make a TV show out of that job.

I wonder if this will be one of GarhallSr top ten swim myths or fundamentals of fast swimming.

Swim myth #10- Alligators and sharks are not interested in human swimmers. Not so. we use them all the time at the olympic training center for the 50m sprinters. It teaches them to confront there fears and swim fast and smooth (ie quite) and optimise their swim stroke so they don’t get eaten. Your stroke follow through becomes shorter along with a faster turnover. It amazes me to see how quickly the times improve when doing “Gatorvals”

Edit for not watching clip. To bad someone had toget attacked. Okay fixed.

The next Ironman event, Denial but only if you are really tough.

and let’s not forget about these things which we’ll kill once we haven’t provoked them either cause they are really just nice and cute and cuddly and want to be our friends.

Are there alligators in New Orleans ?

Yep, I’ve swam in that lake a few times, done a few tri’s in that lake too
No body of water in florida is safe to swim in, that’s why if I’m swimming in a lake I always have someone go out with me on a kayak.

Are there alligators in New Orleans ?

I think so but not sure, I’m usually drunk and staring at boobs.

For the record Roadhouse. THose are Crocs mate;) Gators are cute and cuddly. Crocs are rubber and ugly with holes in them worn by British tourist at Disney. Those things will kill ya! Gators just leave a few puncture wounds that might get infected. Sort of like road rash eh!

LA is full of gators. The bayou is perfect for them. Shallow warm water with plenty of places to hide their catch.

Gators aren’t really dangerous to humans IF you’re being careful. Crocs on the otherhand can be down right mean.
