Just a quick comment to give some positive feedback on the new triamerica races. As was announced at the Anderson, SC race, Sommersports is planning to have 8 triamerica distance (somewhere between Oly and Half) races next year… If Anderson was the test to see how the road production crew does, I think they did very well.
Anderson was well-produced, lots of staff/volunteers, appropriate safety measures, fun course.
I wish I’d known you were there. I agree. I think they did a great job. So did the local support team in Anderson.
I led a delegation of local racers who complained vehemently about the original bike course. They had it going down a very busy road with several large churches at the height of church traffic. They listened and changed the course (to one I laid out … thank you very much). I thought that showed a commitment to participant safety. I know they didn’t want to have to change it. I heard talk of a new venue in Anderson next year … to get us away from the Interstate area.
Everyone I know who participated had a great time. I only did the bike for a relay. I did hear a lot of moaning and groaning about the run course. Not complaining, per se. Just a lot of comments that it was a tough course.
We really lucked out that the sun stayed behind clouds for most of the morning. It might have been far more brutal otherwise.
Two Tri-America races were held this year - one in Clermont, Florida the other in Anderson, SC. CFT/Sommer Sports had a few others on the schedule at the beginning of the season, but they were cancelled due to lack of entries.
CFT/Sommer Sports does a great job of putting on races and they have been producing events for over 20 years. Hopefully the Tri-America Series will expand again next year and offer other regions the chance to participate in these events.
