I was fitted at all3sports on a P2C. I am 6ft tall and they put me on at 56. I love the bike and love the fit. I have the opportunity to pick up a used Carbon Soloist, but it is a 58. Is Cervelo’s fit consistent between road and tri bikes? I also have an old Trek and was fit on a 58 . Opinions?
oldslowguy,
Generally, a tri or time trial bike will have a shorter top tube for a rider than a road bike for that same rider. This presumes that the rider has been properly fit for each frame and not “made to fit” what the retailer had in stock.
There is no standard in the industry or by any manufacturer that compells them to measure frame sizes in any particular uniform way. Therefore, even for the same manufacturer of a tri frame and a road frame a 58 (lets say) may have top tube lengths that are significantly different.
Best advice, get measured or properly fit for the type bicycle you wish to purchase/ride.
The alternative, guess and take a chance finding out the hard way that you ended up with the wrong size frame. By the time you purchase the second frame (right size) will it still be such a good deal?
This forum is full of posts by others who rode a 56 road frame so they got a 56 tri frame only to discover they were on a frame that was way too big for them. Learn from the mistakes of others. That is part of the beauty of the ST Forum!
