Tri tops for swimming?

What tri tops are good for swimming in?

Swimming fast? Can’t imagine any that you’d also be willing to bike/run in. My De Soto and Pearl Izumi are the tri-top equivalent of drag suits, despite the former being excellent for biking/running (rather tight). For no-wetsuit swims, it’s shorts only for me (not even a one-piece any more).

Ken, how about the Speedo Fastskin that they are having Team USA wear? They don’t do any good on the swim (under a wetsuit) but they must be worn on the bike and run.

That one I would hope works as advertised (especially at $120), but I’ve never even seen one, much less worn one. They are making Team USA members buy them? How much are they making you (?) pay for your uniforms, or are they giving them to you (ha)?

I’ll just go to USAT’s web site and get the info. Oops.

Assuming you are looking for a top only not one piece…
Here is your best bet:

I have the one piece of these tops and both of them have a very fast fabric. but it also counts what you wear in the bottom.

This is something I think a lot of folks completely miss the boat on. I know that a drag suit such as this one seems to add roughly 2-4 seconds per hundred for me compared to a regular speedo. A tri top and tri shorts with any pockets has to create just as much, if not more drag.

What about the tops from Kiawami? I have a few, haven’t tried swimming in them, but seem like they COULD work - anyone have experience with these??

I am continually amazed that more clothing lines dont offer a tp that is swim ready. I have one of the original blue speedo tops that is amazing. I got 4 or 5 of them as soon as I learned that they would stop making it. I have one left!

Get the speedo top. I like it to be shorter so I’d take it to a tailor and have some taken off the bottom. 2XU has one and Orca used to have one. Arena had one of the best ever, but I think its no longer being made.

I cut the pockets off the back of one of my tops. I don’t notice much difference in times vs. no top when I’ve tried it in the pool. It’s basic lycra and fits pretty snug.

I swim so fast so the bottom comes off, thats why I prefer the 1 piece
most of the two pieces leave a weird tan line, at the gym or pool people look at me as if i was cross dressing over the weekend.

I’d go the topless route but I need something to hold all the fat in. Great job at NJ Tri Ken

Thanks. Did you look through the photos from that race? Man, there were some seriously obese people in that race!

as in the last year I’ve started volunteering, I’ve noticed that the larger the event, the larger the proportion of overweight people. Did you stick around for the raffle? An overweight first timer won the $4000 Specialized. At first I thought, that’s cool. then the evil thought crept in - what a waste

After waiting for nearly 90 minutes for my little medal with its cheesy plastic stand, I wasn’t going to stick around for the raffle. When I realized they were giving away stuff by calling out the race numbers they could still see worn by people (rather than the usual pulling numbers randomly), I knew the fix was in.
