Ok - I’ll be in LAX late December with about a 12 hour layover. I want to buy a De Soto T1 because I think it will fix my wetsuit fit issues. I could go mail order but I do want to try before I buy.
Where is the closest place to LAX for me to do this?
Specifically for DeSoto, I think you need to go to Tri-Zone in Long Beach. Triathlon Lab is closer to LAX, but I have not seen the DeSoto wetsuits in-store (though I can easily be wrong!). If you call ahead though, I’m sure the guys at Triathlon Lab can be sure to have them in stock when you’re there.
I agree with quellish. I would also PM Emilio see what he can work out for you.
.
PS: Tri Zone is in Los Alamitos. That’s around 35-40 miles from LAX. Remember your drive one way could be as little as 45 min or as much as 2 hours depending on the time of day and day of the week.
Hmm. There is public transport, but it will not get you very close to Tri Zone’s store. Your best bet will probably be Triathlon Lab if they have what you need, their store is about 15 minutes from LAX. For a taxi it should be around $20 each way. I am not sure if there is a bus that goes near Triathlon Lab, but there should be one to the general area (King Harbor is a likely bus stop near Triathlon Lab).
This is LA, the home of the world’s first freeway, the drive-in mecca of the world, where we believe in freeways where we pay no tolls, the auto capital of the world, more Porsches per square inch then anywhere else.
No buses. First it would take you a really long time and it would not be safe. Where the Blue line and Red line meet, not the best area.
yes, I will PM Emilio but I don’t want any special treatment, happy enough to trot out to a tri store.
I will be there around 30 November on my way to Cuba and Mexico, and around 30 Dec on my way back. Prefer to buy on the way back as it saves hassles of carrying stuff with me.
Redondo beach via the taxi sounds good.
Mind you my last bus ride in LA was very entertaining…slightly scary, but entertaining nonetheless…

Not special treatment! He would of told you Tri lab had the wetsuits, or maybe another shop close to LAX. That’s good business for him and the shop. You also want to make sure they have several sizes for you to try on, he could help with that. Remember it will be winter in SoCal(if there is such a thing) so wetsuit stock at the shop could be low. DeSoto has two T1 wetsuits with different combos. I would email them and get a catalog www.desotosport.com
As for Tri lab I got my last tri bike there, service is good with very nice people. It’s one block from the harbor with some good restaurants within walking distance.
