A friend recently sold me his used pair of specialized (now HED-3) carbon tri spoke wheels. I just did the 1/2 Vineman on them and it was cool feeling them almost push me down a few of the straight-aways. Unfortunately I got busy before the race and did not have time to address my bike computer issue and did the whole ride on heart rate and perceived exertion rather than speed because I had no magnets on the spokes.
I’m looking for advice on the best way to mount a magnet for my cyclometer to them. Or would you suggest I buy a new one specifcally for these wheels? If so where would I find one.
I have mounted magnets on cranks and wheel with two side padded tape. Also if you look around ,they have magnets from old computer hard drives ,that are flat and strong- lots of contact area.
I managed to mount mine (on a HED disk) between two layers of tape on one side of the valve cutout. It sits right at the edge of the cutout, leaves the otherside open, and you never notice it. Plus, it’s WAY more aero than having it glued to the wheel! Should work with the tri-spoke too, if you want to do that much work. Or a bit of epoxy and the magnet…
As suggested by someone on this forum I bought some rare earth magnets (2 for $1.79) from Radio Shack and attached with a dab of 100% Silicon sealant. Works like a charm and costs about $4.
