I originally wrote this in response to a post about the oldest triathlon, but then I realized that I had a question:
Approx. 33 AD.
This dude was flogged, carried a cross, and was then nailed to it. Guy suffocated or bled to his death!
Based on the world’s hatred, turpitude, and tumult, there apparently was no winner.
My wife says I spend too much time racing/riding, but she only began saying this when she wanted to start having children. I cannot justify bringing children into this world.
If I did justify it, I don’t know that I want to give-up my racing lifestyle… how do you guys do it… racing with families!!!

I assume that saying you cannot justify bringing children into this world, you mean because of how ‘bad’ the world is…
well here is the deal with that. The very minute you bring a child into the world, is the very same minute you begin to try harder to make the world a better place for your child. The world needs more of that, not more people who are resigned to their fate.
As far as racing with a family? I have two girls. 6 and 4. It’s a lot, but not all of what they know about me. The triathlete lifestyle. The running lifestyle… that I like to run, and do Triathlons. They hand out water at events, cheer others on, and often get to wear medals around. It’s not easy, but is very rewarding. I love to run, love to race, love to train… and if you choose to have children and a family, It’s just something you make work.
Just can’t seem to get her interested.
She needs to lose 20 lbs and has little motivation.
Bought her a nice WSD Bianchi last year, but I’ve since taken the wheels for trainers b/c she doesn’t ride at all.
Wife swam in high school, but does very little activity now…she likes to watch reality TV!
Her excuse is many hours/stress at work.
I think I’m going to have to play matchmaker with some other women to pique her interest in cycling.
Running is a battle that I’ll wage if I can win her over to cycling!

Very thoughtful/insightful.
Me gusta mucho.

Wow, isn’t she lucky?

Before you think about kids, you need to put down the crack pipe and step away slowly…
I just started participating in Triathlons last year. I am married and have three kids (1.5 months, 2 yrs., 4yrs.) I am a fairly competitive person that does not like to just be present at events. I want to race, go hard, and feel “good” doing it. At the end of the day I always remember that triathlon is my hobby. My faith and family is my life. Priorities must be made. I choose between sleep and training; not training and wife/children.
Get ready for a lot of early mornings, but the benefits far outweigh the sacrifice.
