Tri Fit - back pain, achilles pain

I’m trying to get my setup improved for IMW in 6 weeks. My longer rides have given me lower back pain, after about 50 miles or so. I ride a Trek 5200 stock with a profile clipon aerobar. I was getting pain earlier than that, and added a forward-lean setpost, which improved things a bit, but still I am not there yet. Does low back pain and achilles soreness (this comes a day later – the back pain comes during the ride) point to a specific setup problem, say seat height? Could my back be somehow getting engaged in my stroke, building up over miles and eventually causing the problem? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My LBS is a road focussed and isnt’ much help. I’m planning to seek a tri fit up in Chicago sometime soon.

I had wanted to put barend shifters on, but want to first get the low back pain fixed.

thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have multiple issues…

Where are you located?

Whatever you do…don’t post a pix here and have everybody confuse you 6 weeks out from IM.

Champaign, IL. I made an appointment with a chicago BS listed on the Serrotta website. Hopefully they can help identify some of what’s going on.

MissionBay? That would be my recommendation…

I’m totally just throwing darts, but I imagine the fitter will:

determine optimal seat tube angle

Seat tilt

hood position

aero position

cleat position

width

At the same time…I would ask advise from the fitter regarding YOUR position and riding style (i.e. hip rotation, alignment, shoulder hunch, etc)

Good luck…see you on 9-11.
