Tri-Fashion

Here’s something that needs to be discussed; Tri-Fashion. It’s great to train hard and race hard but what good is all the effort and preparation if your bike is all high-tech and aero, but you look like a bum when you’re riding it?

I seriously think that the makers of tri-specific clothing and not doing enough to provide us with fashionable and functional attire. (on a personal note, I’m more into the fashion element.) Does anyone have a source for scoring some sharp looking tri clothes? I don’t mean the generic line of stuff that you see from Zoot, DeSoto, Iron*Girl and others, but really cool looking sh** like the European/South American athletes wear.

I would practically die if I went to a race and saw another dude wearing the same outfit that I was wearing……totally bad for my image.

In the Hundermarck photo thread, both Hundermarck and Francois look great on their bikes, nice position, cool looking bikes……but they are also very sharply dressed. Francois, where did you get that outfit?

I’m planning my 2005 race season and I need to plan for the wardrobe as well, so any ideas, sources, insight, or donations would be appreciated.

This is an equal opportunity thread, so I’d be interested to hear what the ladies think of this issue.

Let’s be honest about “tri fashion” - anyone who’s not into triathlon thinks we ALL look like total dorks.

I guess I don’t get it…your clothes don’t make you cool…you make you cool.

maybe you should have more confidence in yourself, and screw this bullshit about image. If your fast and a cool cat, what more image do you need? Kittycat

Mojenzen, if I gave away my totally cool sources, then you could buy the stuff. And imagine if we went to the same race? I would die…

Well, not really…

Check out Cannibal stuff if you’ve never seen it: http://www.cannibal.com.au/

The new Craft stuff is also supposed to be nice, but the Cannibal stuff is definitely unique…

I agree that most tri singlets are pretty boring, they all look the same. And there all too freakin SMALL! None fit me or other clydes.

You gotta design your own stuff and have it made.

I get it…and I have plenty of confidence.

I do think a prince ought to surpass his subjects rather in the culture of virtues than in the finery of his clothes. That being said, while you might think my attempt to solicit fashion advice is silly, I believe that you never get a second chance to make a first impression.

I would not want to be thought of as someone who races fast yet has horrendous fashion sense. I would prefer to be thought of as someone who races fast, yet has the good sense to make sure he looks sharp in the process.

That’s actually pretty funny. and probably a very good example of why I refuse to buy/wear/train in any clothing of any professional team

Go with body paint. It worked for Lori Bowden.

You gotta design your own stuff and have it made.
Ditto that. However, who should we go to for very small production runs? And what should we expect to pay?

A comedian once said …

“The difference between a man and a woman is this … if a woman shows up to a party and sees another woman with the same outfit, she’s just made an enemy. If a man shows up to a party and sees another man wearing the same shirt, he’s just made a friend for life”.

Tri-Fashion? Sheesh. Wanna be unique? Don’t shave your legs and dress JUST LIKE EVERYBODY else! Simple. =)

“Marge, I can’t wear a pink shirt to work. Everybody wears white shirts. I’m not popular enough to be different …” – Homer Simpson

“Let’s be honest about “tri fashion” - anyone who’s not into triathlon thinks we ALL look like total dorks.”

They’re just jealous, because"
a - They’re fat and doughy and we’re hard and studly
b - They have no occasion or opportunity to wear a helmet with a long pointy extension off the back end (Garneau Prologue)
c - Their wives and children would disown them if they wore spandex
.

“I would prefer to be thought of as someone who races fast, yet has the good sense to make sure he looks sharp in the process.”

Right on, my brother. Why would I spend 50 years designing and building my body, and then go out and race in ill-fitting or tacky clothing.

Personally, until Hid gets my TSR togs to me, I’ll stick with basic black…

I think we should extend the bike rule to clothing and the bodies it covers: pictures or we assume you’re fat, and ghostly white.

You, Cousin, are a stud.

That’s actually pretty funny. and probably a very good example of why I refuse to buy/wear/train in any clothing of any professional team

You should wear a professional team’s jersey if you are (1) no older than 12, (2) a spectator at their sporting event, or (3) actually on the team.

Custom jerseys are great. I currently race in a Sugoi Wireless jersey done up with my shop team logos. The problem is they had to order like a hundred of these to even get the custom option.

I’d like to get a similar jersey for myself and my training buddies. We’d need a large college team logo on the front and sponsors’ logos on the sides and back. Do any companies deal with quantities smaller than 10?

My club got a pretty good deal by ordering semi-custom jerseys from Sugoi. You can’t see it that well in this picture, but if you look it up on their website, you’ll see that they have some reasonable options and you can buy them in smaller quantities. (The design comes with sleeves, but I bought four and had my GF desleeve two of them because I teach spin and it’s freakin’ hot in that room.)

I guess I don’t get it…your clothes don’t make you cool…you make you cool.

You make you cool and if you are cool you wear cool clothes. But if you really cool you don’t give a shit about what others might perceive as cool, you wear what makes you faster and most comfortable. Therefore, you wear something very technical and not like anyone external that you try to copy.

Wearing anything with a sponsor’s logo without being sponsored or at least affiliated is always uncool. You might look cool, but you are a wannabe dummy.

Kittycat, I bet you look cool.

I have not seen your photo here, are you fat, and ghostly?
