Tri Camps- Recommendations

I am contemplating attending a tri camp this winter. Any recommendations on those that were felt to be worthwhile and those that weren’t?

Peter Reid is hosting a winter Mountain man camp up at Silver star in BC in January. It is heavy on the winter sports and is more of a cross training base/strength builder. Silver star is an awesome mountain and the Camp is a great price. Especially considering Pete is a current Legend in the making.

I’ve been a cycling instructor at, and attened as a client, Doug Stern’s Triathlon training camp on the island of Curacao on the Dutch Antilles for six years. I really recommend it. There is an intense concentration on swimming- the area I need the most work in. We do two swims a day- one pool, one open water.

There are two rides per day with optional additional (alternative) rides. The roads are good to great and the weather is sensational. Good food too and the hotel we stay in is nice and has its own beach.

We’ve had some very notable people attend also, which adds fun to the camp. Athlete abilities range from pedestrian to Olympic competitors and professional cyclists. At the end of the week there is the RBTT/Fatum Bank Triathlon Fest Olympic Distance race, one of the largest races in the Caribbean. It is a brutally difficult Oplympic distance race with a rough water swim over a coral reef, a visciously hilly, hot and incredibly windy bike course and a sizzler of a run with murderous hills.

Big fun. HIghly recommended. Here’s a story: http://www.bikesportmichigan.com/features/curacao04.shtml

I have some friends that have gone to camps organized by Multisports as well http://www.multisports.com/
