Tri Bikes

I’m in the process of sniffing out a new tri bike and am very interested in a few off the cuff brands which include Seven and Guru. I read Dan’s review of Guru’s Tri Ti and it sounds solid, however the shop is a good hour away that deals and specs these bikes. A local dealer sells Seven’s (Titanium) as well and the guys are great. Both bikes look comprable to me. Anyone that owns either have any solid feedback. I’m leaning towards titanium with some consideration for carbon as well.

Thanks!

I’d say to invest the two hours (for the round trip drive) and test ride the bike. That’s the only way you’ll know for sure.

If you’re interested in carbon, a Parlee or Calfee tri bike would fit the bill nicely. www.parleecycles.com www.calfeedesign.com Both are top notch, but not much in the way of aero doo dads.

I haven’t ridden on a Seven, but I love my Guru. Comfortable and stable. If you have the cash, the carbon Crono is supposed to be amazing.

I am very pleased with the custom Guru Tri Ti I purchased this past spring. I considered carbon as well but because I am 6’5" and plan to travel with the bike decided to go with titanium. It is comfortable and indestructible. The bike was purchased with the purpose of doing halfs and fulls. It performed great for IMLP this year and after 2k miles I’m quite happy. For the first time I am completely comfortable in the aero position for distances greater than 50 miles.

Thanks for the replies! I will be traveling with the bike as well, and living near the coast, I was kind of leaning towards the titanium as well. I’m hoping to stay in the $4000 range but I’m not sure that’s possible with Dura Ace. What kind of bars did you set the bike up with? Am I way off price wise or is this number pretty close?

With Dura Ace you will be a fair bit above $4k. Mine came with Dura Ace, profile design airwing and carbon strykes and Ksyrium Elites as standard equipement. I upgraded the wheels and left everything else the same. I also went custom since nobody seems to make a tri-bike large enough for me. That was an extra $150, which was a bargain given how much different my bike is from the stock frame and compared to LS’s $450 charge. Going Ti and DA for around $4k could be difficult.
