If I get a tri bike can I ride it in an organized century ride as long as I don’t ride in a paceline? Also, if I show up at a tri club group ride (LA Tri Club) do they usually ride on tri bikes with no drafting or do they ride on road bikes? I usually ride alone but it would be fun to do a longer ride in a group some time.
I did a double century in May on my P2K. Just don’t get in the bars unless you’re leading the paceline.
No, riding a tri bike on a road bike club ride is a huge faux pas.
What about a tri bike in a tri bike club ride? If you never ride in aero is that okay?

I’m sure this is perfectly fine. Personally, I don’t mind tri bike on road bike club rides but I hear what everyone else has to say. The assumption is that people can’t control their tri bikes and therefore shouldn’t be riding in a draft line. Trust me, roadies LOVE to dis the guys riding tri bikes. Where I live they won’t allow aero bars on many of the century events.
Thanks for the info. I’ve only ridden road bikes over the years but I’m going to be purchasing a tri bike soon. My road bike is so old and worn I really don’t want to ride it any more but I can’t buy both a new tri and new road bike right now. Since I ride solo most of the time it shouldn’t be a problem.
