I live in the northwest suburbs of chicago. And I am in the market for a tri-bike. I am wondering if it is necessary to be fit by someone who is certified in F.I.S.T. technology.
Or if anyone has good suggestion for a store that sells tri-bikes.
Mission Bay Multisport has closed in Chicago area.
Element Multisport is my recommendation. Chris has always been friendly to me and I think he’s Serotta certified. I don’ t know if he’s been out to be fisted by Dan. It’s a nice shop at about 2800 N Clybourn in Chicago. As far as I know, they are the only ones who are focused on triathlon in Chicago anymore.
I had my Serotta road bike and Orbea Ordu fitted at Get a Grip, and I have sent a dozen people there and no one has been disappointed yet. Ask for Kevin, although Adam is good, too. I don’t know about Element or any of the others. They are fairly new to the game.
Go see Adam @ Get A Grip. He set me up on my bike, and set up a lot of my friends. He has been doing it longer then anyone else in the city (maybe the country) as for as I know. They have Cervelo now as well. They have a wall full of certifications and a long list of happy athletes.
From recent personal experience, F.I.S.T. fitting technology means very little in tri bike fitting. Bottom line, it doesn’t guarantee you a good fit. Do your research and talk to others. Just because someone has been to a F.I.S.T. fitting workshop doesn’t mean they are a good fitter. I found out the hard and expensive way. Good luck.
+1 for Element Multisport. Chris will fit you properly and he has many satisfied customers which will vouch for him. His shop link is under retailers up top.
I have to agree with the folks who are Get A Grip fans, because I’ve become one myself! I worked with Adam
and had a wonderful experience. It was completely different from any other fit I’ve ever had. I now really
feel cheated by the places I’ve shopped at, the Get A Grip fit is extremely detailed…a good thing! They asked
me stuff no one ever has, I was blown away. I really understand why this fit is the BEST I’ve ever had.
I just starting Tri’s after years of road racing. Of course in my mind I thought I knew everything already, but after the Get A Grip fit session
I now know I’ve got lots to learn. The guys there from Adam at the fit level to Eric who helped after I got my new ride, to all the other employees (sorry I don’t remember your names) are GREAT. I’m a big service snob and they know service, pretty rare these days. I can’t say enough nice stuff about the fit and the shop as a whole.
Do yourself right GO TO THIS PLACE.
P.S. I only did the aero fit but going to book a road fit as soon as I can.
