I got my first tri bike this spring (’07 Cannondale Ironman Six13 Slice Aero 2 ) and have done all of my training rides on it this year. The main reason being I was just so pumped to have a new bike that I didn’t want to ride my 3 year old Cannondale R500. Now that the “newness” of the tri bike has worn off, I’ve kind of gotten the bug to ride my old road bike again. My question is what type of workouts should I ride each?
I ride the tri bike if I’m doing something race specific, i.e., intervals type work.
I ride the road bike for longer endurance type rides or any ride in a group.
That’s basically what I was thinking. The “roadie” guys around here that I ride with love busting my balls about my aero frame, aero bars, crap like that. So I figured to save myself from ridicule I’d start riding my road bike with them. I was just wondering if there was any science to it other than that.
Different things work for different people obviously. Now as I am racing mostly shorter races I personally only ride my TT bike in races and training TT events, otherwise I am always on my road bike.
That tactic though is not great for someone who is not confident on a triathlon bike. Those people need to spend more time on their tri bikes.
Plus when I focus on an IM race I ride my triathlon bike more often to get used to ride in that low TT position for a longer period of time.

As a bike racer new to Tri I am also just starting out on my new bike, (Guru Trilite), but will still train heavily on my TCR.
I’ll stick w/ my Roadie for hefty hill training and for group riding. I do lots of pack riding and you just don’t have the same control as on the roadie.
AT and TT training I’ll go with my Tri bike.
Problem is when to ride my track bike;)
