Tri air cleats

I bought my daughter a pair of Louis Garneau Tri Air shoes on Dec. 29th. She rides 2-3 times a week for about 2 hours total. She went to get on the trainer a bit ago and she kept coming unclipped. I looked at her shoe and the metal cleat on her right shoe has broken in half. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I send them back?

Um… THinking it’s not the shoe. What pedal system is she running?

What kind of cleat? Sometimes they need various adapters and perhaps they were installed incorrectly…

Both my wife and I have these shoes, with old-style SPD pedals, and have had no problems.

I agree with others, I think its something with the cleat, not the shoe.

She is using Speedplay X/5 and they were installed by the bike shop that did her bike fit(FIST certified), so I’m pretty sure they were installed properly. We check her shoes once a week or so and tighten the screws if they become loose and I didn’t notice anything unusual. Oh, and I wasn’t planning on sending the shoes back, she loves her shoes. I meant the cleats.

I’m ~175 lbs and have X5’s. I have about 500 miles on them, including two races where T2 snuck up on me and forced a run on the pavement w/shoes & cleats still on. No problems so far…
