Tri again?!

It may be time for another change…possible mid-life crisis? I was around here years ago and did tri’s for several years, enjoying them and doing fairly well in age group considering that my background was in powerlifting and bodybuilding. Then I swithced back to where I came from and achieved what I wanted to achieve.

I then started visiting this site again and am starting to get the triathlon bug back. At 41 I believe that my health is more important than just being big and strong. Don’t get me wrong though, unlike others here, I plan to continue to hit the weight room, just with a little different emphasis. Being a police officer I feel the some extra size and power to go along with that is important. See, by nature, I am a little guy-5’4" and a natural weight of around 145. I got up to 182- solid, which was huge for my body. I enjoyed being that big but my fitness was not where i wanted it to be.

The other factors making me lean back to triathlon is that my kids , especialy my two boys 14 and 12, have become very interested in bike racing and triathlons. All of them compete in top level premier soccer and and are in great shape. I think this would be a great age to get involved in these things with them.

I guess I’m lookng for( on a tri site!) some help getting started again. Some more motivation and experiences.

And yes… I realize that it appears I have made up my mind but it is not entirely there yet.

Thanks,
Jeff

The best way to start for me was after years of thinking about it, I signed up for a race. This put the pressure on me to get off my butt and train.
And, my kids were around the age of yours, so we did it as a family event. Relays, and individual. We then got into the friends coming out and
doing the races. We also got into helping at races big time. All of this has made for a great sport that keeps a family together.

Good luck

Dave
