So heres the deal, set to do my first IM mid August at Tremblant. I broke my big toe last Sunday and Im in a soft boot, for how long im not sure but have a follow up with foot dr on 7/21. I am able to swim and went to masters already with the broken toe. I tried riding the trainer but could only manage 40 easy minutes due to pain (more from my foot being stuffed into the shoe then actually pedaling). Will give riding outdoors a try this weekend and see how that goes.
So what are your thoughts and still going through with the IM in August? I did the Aqua bike of Challenge AC two weekends ago and felt pretty good after the bike and actually wished i had signed up for the full and just ran. I really wanted to focus my run after Challenge AC but that looks to be last of the 3 that i will get to train in coming weeks. Run is probably my strongest of the 3 so i guess that is small positive…
Its probably too late to transfer right? I’m not up to speed on the WTC transfer policy. But if you paid for the race then take it day by day. Get to the starting line the best you can. I wouldn’t just throw 600-700 bucks out the window. Can you aqua jog? I feel for you since its a crappy situation.
I’ve seen lots of people in all shorts of versions of ‘in-shape’ for the race do the run portion in a walking boot. These same people also looked to be the least serious and having the most fun. You’ve paid the money, booked the hotel, and (hopefully) done most of the important training. Toss out any time goals and make a fun day of the event.
ive def a done the large portion of the training. I wanted to get in a 20 mile run and keep up the biking. I will see how it feels this weekend and just do what i can
Just focus on the bike (once healed enough) & swim a lot and try and keep up a high weekly training load to maintain overall fitness. That probably matters more late in the run, than run mileage. Luckily your run is already strong, so don;t sweat it. I’d just slowly work back up the mileage for 3-4 weeks after your healed then shut it town and do a short taper. I’d build the bike HARD as possible during that time and then do a normal taper for that. Swim like hell all the way up to the last week. You should hate the pool with a real passion by early August.
s*** happens. Make the best of it. If you had a good run base over the last couple years without a lot of long breaks, you should be fine.

Its the next obsctale on the progression of events for me. Have one kid and one on the way, time for training will only get more scarce in the next few years…
