Treks 08 bikes are online

I like their new Madone lineup, but their Tri bikes didnt change much. Ive been waiting to see which bike
to buy my daughter. Now Im leaning towards cervelo.

The 9.9 looks very sweet. SRAM components are a nice touch. I’m interested to see those Bontrager brakes in person. I wonder how many they’ll sell at $8,249 MSRP. The 9.9 makes the Felt DA looks like a bargain.

Random though. I surprised they rebadged the Trek 1000 to the 2.1 or whatever they’re calling it now. It always received solid ratings and it got plenty of people introduced to cycling due to the price and Trek’s name recognition.

Anyone have any idea which models (road and tri) will be available as framesets?

I see the 9.9SSL will be, but that’s not white I am really looking for. I would like to think some of the lower level carbon bikes might be available as framesets for a reasonable price. Such as the 9.0 (the blue one) in the tri frame. Or 5.5 or 6.5 in the Madone’s which use the slightly heavier and thus less expensive carbon.

I agree with you there. The 1000 is a great entry level ride and so many people have them either as a first bike or just a junker to go around with. Like the old saying goes if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it!

Did you have something in particular that needed to change on Trek’s tri bikes this year before you would buy one, or did you just expect ‘something new’? They can only expend so much time and energy on their products, and the new Madone has taken up a TON of that time and energy. They have also done some big upgrading to their admittedly behind the curve MTB line and have quietly made some big changes to their XO cyclocross frame. The Equinox TTX only came out last year, so I don’t see what big changes would be expected other than a few little tweaks here and there.

If you wanted Trek to make specific changes to help them catch up to something you see as being better at Cervelo, I am cool with that. If you are dogging them because you think they should make some changes for the sake of changes, then I ask: what has Cervelo changed lately?

On a non race note I like the new Portland as a high end commuter. It would be nice if it came with a rack however.
