Trek TTx - work in progress

Hello everyone! I thought it would be interesting to share my project. I first started building this TT with matching parts, I chose full Dura ace at first, including a DA C24 wheelset for training. For racing, I have the Zipp 808/404, dropping some weight. My goal has changed since I started having as a priority guess what?!.. weight saving, that’s when the game started…Excel spreadsheets, http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif …hours on the internet, ebay watcher, panning on forums…and my first upgrade was switching the brake calipers from DA 7800 to Zero Gravity…yes…I consider myself kinf of a weightweeny after that.

Unfortunately I began to weigh the parts in the middle of the assembly, so I regret of not having the frame/fork weight, and some components. but here is the scope: and I will be updating in the future.

Nice looking bike and good component choices. Let me know how the brakes work out for you though.I was always adjusting before a ride and sometimes during

Nice stuff, Things you might tweak, 12-23 cassette unless you are riding in real hills, change out the aerobar extensions for the Zipp Aerobar Extensions VukaShift Shimano 7700-7900 so you can mount your shifters directly into the extensions without the plug. You can also use the security skewers, tighten with allen key. I tried those brakes on my road bike. Worked great for everything until I tried my 808’s in them. Too wide (not even the FC too), I had to open the brakes up all the way and totally lost the mechanical advantage and couldn’t brake for squat. Maybe you will have better luck! Nice work!

I’d much rather have more gears then less gears a 23 sucks especially if you spin more than get out of your saddle.

He does have a 34 up front though…

I’m a spinner too. All depends on the terrain…

Oh geez I completely missed that. A 34/53 well thats an odd combo to begin with, I wonder if it even shifts well. Yeah with that I would definitely run lower than an 11/25. But i’d never run a 34 up front anyways, thats way too much spinning for me.

We are on the same page because I did bought the Zipp extentions VukaShift and its on the way to my house! next step is to find the Sram R2C TT shifters.

I’m still double thinking about the ZG’s…I’m also not to happy so far…

Future changes:

For power capture: from Look keo easy(280g) to Garmin Vector Pedal(280g with pods) + CPU Edge 800 (98g) = will add 98g
f/ ADAMO saddle (280) to dash tt09 saddle (86), saving 194g “Still a dream”
f/ DA rear derailleur (181) to Sram red rear der (153), saving 28g
f/ DA front derailleur (72) to Sram red front der; (58), saving 14g
f/ Zipp sandard extentions to Vuka Shift, saving aprox 80g
f/ DA TT shifters (185) to Sram TT RC2 aero shifters (175); 10g

future weight: 7215g

I am setting up this bike for every condition, I train with it as well…it will be ready for big hills. 34 on the front works perfectly, shifting is normal.

34 is just for the hills, going on flat road, I rarely change from 53 anyway …shifting is great!!!

Where did you have the frame re-painted? If you don’t mind me asking how much did it set you back? Are those logos decals or paint? Where did you get the decals? Lastly, you are working on building a very light bike, how did the re-paint, re-work of the frame set affect the weight of the frame set?
Thanks for the patience in answering all those questions; I, too have a TTX and have been considering a re-paint but have many questions and concerns.
Lastly, I tried the zero-G “slowers”-I call them that because they were far from “stoppers” especially when the slightest bit damp, God forbid wet. That was with new Swiss stop pads and many bike shop adjustments! I gave up and sold them, went with DA 7900 brakes-these are “stoppers”.
Thanks again,
Coop

looking good.

bar tape must match saddle. seriously though, try out some white bar tape. it’ll look good.

I have a pair on my Slice HM that I am going to swap for DA’s. When you’re ready for them, feel free to PM me.

Just wanted to throw that out there…didn’t mean to hijack the thread in any way.

Where did you have the frame re-painted? I bought the frame used and already re-painted. according to the previous owner, he sent the frame back to Trek manufacture and they did the paint job.

how much did it set you back?
I don’t know how much he paid.

Are those logos decals or paint?
Logos are decals

Where did you get the decals?
My own creation using Corel Craw.

how did the re-paint, re-work of the frame set affect the weight of the frame set? I wish I could know that info.

I still have a set of DA 7800 calipers with me but I still want to spend some time with the ZG’s to have some more solid conclusions. But its here just in case I decide to switch back.

After installing the new Zipp extentions, I think I’ll add a black tape to match with the basebar tape…but your idea is nice!

Now you say you got decals, are they wet slide or vinyl decals? Who did them for you?

I made it myself using corel draw. This one is not vinyl, but its possible to do it. I know I guy around my town that work with arts in general.

Vuka shift will be on it soon. Security skewers, I thought about it but I would like to keep things simple and I like the handles. I had the same experience using ZG’s with 808, too wide like you’re talking about…so, not sure yet if I will keep it!

Dream…magura hydraulic $$$$ brakes RT8 TT.

Like I said, still having some problems with ZG’s…not sure if I will keep it…same experiences as yours…

Great deal on ebay, got the set - bar plus shifters (I sanded).
According to the ZIPP website, This setup supposed to save about 80g, I got 71g.

I still could shave 190g switching the Zipp Vuka clip-on (390g) to Ritchey WCS Sliver Clip-on (200g), but I’m not sure if would like it. Does anyone had any experience with those?
