That’s the new R4 Aero Bontrager tire with a bit of overkill on the valve extender length which is hopefully attached to a latex tube valve. You can see that the wings are missing making the tire much easier to install.
IMO a good rule would be to let the bike be as aero as you want it; the key restriction is that the bike cannot be built to shield the rider (ex. no nosecones, no tailcones), but can be designed to shield other parts of the bike (ex. curved seat tubes around the rear wheel).
What other bikes are meant for something like this on the back? I doubt they will come out with something similar because there is not a way to mount it. The P3 is narrow in that spot and the rear brake gets in the way. The P4 is narrow as well so no way to mount it there. Seems to me that the SC was built with this attachment in mind IMO…
THANK YOU !!!
i was pouring thru the search engine trying to find this pic. this is Mike Lavery’s bike. he works for TREK and is / was on that TIMEX team.
if this new speed concept lunch box is made illegal, everyone will immediately replace it with this setup, so why bother?
The “BULLET BAR” was made by Profile. It was deemed illegal by USAT because it was a fairing first and a hydration system second. It will be interesting to see what becomes of this “New” product by Vision.
I’d say that thing has ban written all over it. Mainly I say this because it continues to follow the curvature of the wheel. If it had a more horizontal bottom, cutting across where the radius begins, it’d have no trouble at all.
Agreed but only on the speed concept. I just don’t see other companies coming out with products for one bike, which is between 7.5K-10K, if I saw the price tag right. But I like the idea, just wish the bike I have had an option for it

I’ve been looking at my Plasma LTD since seeing this setup, and I’m fairly confident that a similar system could be developed without too much difficulty. It’s a rare case in which a seat mast might make things easier.
If I get a chance, I’ll mock up something in Photoshop this week. Maybe a more motivated ST member will actually make it…
