Treating Road Rash

Ok, when the inevitable happens and you go down on the bike, what’s the best way to treat the road rash? Should leave it open and let it air out, or should you put a salve on it and bandage it?

A medicated ointment. Bag Balm is supposed to work well. What I have always used is whatever I get from the hospital. Especialy if you want to keep riding.

Its been about a month since my first crash and I wondered the same thing…so I did a minor experiment. I let one spot dry out and scab over, and the other one i covered w/ nonstick pads w/ plenty of neosporin on it and wrapped it up. I kept this up for a solid week and the covered one healed much faster…take it or leave it…

If you can call your doc and get a script, Silvadene Cream works very well. I used it after a crash two years ago and my skin healed great. Keep it in the fridge so when you apply it, it goes on cool.

Thanks all!

Good stuff there Tom. With my bike handling skills (or bad luck), maybe I need to keep that bookmarked!
