You will need a car no matter what as the venue is on the island and no hotels there. Downtown SF is the closest, but also most expensive. If you are looking for convenience and price, I’d go with one of the motels along Lombard Street. Better parking than downtown and much cheaper, plus, if you come early, you can step out the door and run or ride.

Convenience is more of a driver than price. Lombard and what? What’s a cross street that I can use as a starting point? I’m trying to do a lookup of the area on mapquest.
Thanks
Lombard and anything west of Van Ness (there are no hotels east of Van Ness).
Any of the Fisherman’s Wharf hotels would be just as convenient. Embarcadero Hyatt or Park Hyatt would probably be closest to the freeway/bridge. Or the other couple of hotels on the Embarcadero (forget their names). Email me with specific names when you get an idea.

You might want to stay in Emeryville. There are quite a few hotels and you have easy access to the bridge and TI. It will probably be cheaper and just as easy as the city. The big chains in Emeryville are Holiday Inn, Courtyard by Marriot, Four Points by Shereton and a Woodfin. They all have easy access to the freeway.
if you stay on the east side of that hyatt you’ll probably be able to see the race site out your window in the middle of the bay… (just an educated guess)…

I’ll check this option out as well. I really appreciate the advice.
Thanks.
