Treadmill buying advice

I’m buying a running treadmill so I can be closer to home with the running…

I started looking and researching for treadmills, and I had no idea I’d be looking at 1500 to 4500 for a new, good quality treadmill. If you knock off all the bells and whistles and buy an 800 dollar one, the buyer reviews and comments warn that those things don’t last very long, especially if you are running on it, as opposed to walking, and its best just to throw it down for a good one.

Have any of you had good results for a treadmill in the 600-800 range? I dont’ mind getting off the treadmill to raise the incline. And I don’t need a HRM, because I’ve got all of that with my watch and strap.

What do you look for in a good treadmill, as far as features.

as a tip…go to the carry out and get a trading post. in this country (if you are US), alot of people buy them and end up using them to hang clothes on shourtly after purchase. before long, they aim to sell them with less than 10 miles used, at a lower cost.

i got mine this way. it is a Spirit, with a jacked up motor. we paid cash, 900.00. turns out the guy who used it was trying to get his pro card (hence the faster motor), but ended up getting really hurt. my husband looked in the trading post 2 times before seeing it advertised. easy peazy. and i trained for 3 marathons on the thing and my husband weighs 220 and (when he uses it) will trot right along just fine. i love the thing.

so, get some ideas about what models you like, and look in the trading post. like i said–people have big ideas about getting a treadmill, but find they never use it. you should be able to get the model you want, at a much lower cost.

BTW–the Spirit is about a 1500 to 2500 dollar machine brand new. no whistles really, but a good motor, high incline, etc.

To save money use craigslist. Buy a used one and get it serviced. Probably save a ton of money. If you want a new one Lifecycle is having a pretty good sale right now. There is a T3 (I think) for about 1600 dollars. Only does 10 mph but a friend bought it and I ran on it. Seemed pretty good. Or you could go the full boat route and buy a 6000 dollar club type. I did this and love my treadmill. I got the 612 plus from Stairmaster. I think the technomagic brand is a little better, I think it’s more though.

Landice L7’s have a in home lifetime warranty. all they make is treadmills for 38 years.

or if you want to replicate the road feel–get a Woodway.

Bought the middle range Nordic Track on sale for about $750. It ain’t bad, but if I had it to do over again, I would have put out the extra coin and got a much better unit. Mine has been okay to me, but okay is all.

Bought a middle of the line ProForm treadmill which is sold at Sears last year.
I’ve got good use out of it.No problems at all.Mostly used at an average of 8:45/mi pace. I used it all last winter when it was too cold in the a.m, or for double run days during base period.
Best part is the Sears warranty. You can always upgrade the span.
Paid 700.00 when it went on sale.
