Transitions are important

As referenced in another post , my 8 yr old godson did his first triathlon this past weekend. Here is some video of his T1 (which admittedly, needs a bit of work…)

Yes, transitions are important. Not trying to “one up” here but my son Jake (10 yrs) did his first triathlon yesterday and was #1 out of the water out of 48 kids under 12 and under and his T1 was 1:22 and T2 was :42. He did a half day clinic with my coach and a bunch of kids a few weeks ago and they did T1/T2 drills for a hour or so.

I need to get out and practice my transitions before my next race.

That’s awesome. This kid had never swam in open water before, so we took him out in the lake earlier in the week - but the waves really freaked him out. He also wasn’t fond of not knowing how deep the water is. He was a lot better after I showed him that even though he couldn’t touch, he could just bounce off the bottom. ~32/35 out of the water, 27th off the bike (I swear he started the bike dead last) and 25th overall.

Funny kid - survives the swim (just like a “real triathlete”), dogs the bike, and then runs like a bat out of hell - only to trip over his shoelace and wipe out, then stop to re-tie his shoes and finish in a blazing sprint.

We went out for ice cream after the race and there he is, sitting by himself on a bench with his shirt sleeve rolled up, acting all nonchalant.
