TrainingPeaks Virtual Update Brings Massive Improvements to Platform

Just pee in a bottle.

can TPV do virtual shifting yet?

a la Campanaerts

Zwift managed to capture me with their excellently executed virtual shift cog. For me it’s sufficiently game changing that I’m loathe to abandon it - alas, Traininpeaks virtual isn’t compatible with Zwift shifters. I use it all the time, even though I train mostly in erg mode - I feel like it’s the way erg mode is supposed to be done, where you have the freedom to slightly upadjust or downadjust the interval depending on how you’re feeling.

I know you can also do this with keypad controls, but I use to try and do that and I always ended up just avoiding it. I even bought small bluetooth keyboards to try and make it easier, but still no.

As great as the Zwift shifters are, I’m really hoping that some intrepid bike trainer manufacturer will finally make a trainer that functions like a zwift cog with e-shifting, but have the e-shifting intelligence build into the trainer itself, and not depending on Zwift or other computer software. That way it would absolutely work on whatever software platform you choose, or even no platform. They could have their own proprietary shifter similar to a Zwift click to change the gears that talks to the trainer, not to the software. I would gladly ā€˜upgrade’ my perfectly good Zwift Core for something like this.

Just for anyone interested, I google this on reddit, and one user said if you want to do ā€˜virtual shifting’ with they keyboard with Trainingpeaks virtual:

I use this: 3 Key Mini Keypad Wireless USB 2… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BDRPQLW1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and map the keys to shift up and shift down. Rubber band the keyboard to your shifter.

Not a bad suggestion, I might try it myself. Not sure it’ll survive sweat if I put it on the handlebar, though, may have to stick it somewhere else.

I’ve used for 6ish months and it’s never not included virtual shifting, so yes

I use this three button keyboard and I mount it on my computer mount inside the aerobars. Since TP virtual includes averages for intervals I have no use for a separate bike computer. I did when I used zwift because zwift does not provide that information, which is incredibly dumb.
