Training with power-Dilemma

Looking to start training and racing with power meter or similar device. Bought a Hed Jet 60/90 set about 2 months ago and really like the wheels but did not get power meter hub on the 90. Now I would like to train and race with power and ideally use the Jet 90 for racing. Can I get the power hub installed now on my Hed-heard that Hed wheels are drilled for a specific hub so may not be possible? If I can do this then that will probably be how I go although I would prefer to not do all training with the 90. Would like to go wireless so looking at Power Tap Pro+ as it includes HR. Would like to “do it all” for $1300-1500.

Other options? (I do all training/racing on same bike Cervelo P1)
Training wheel set up with power and separate race wheel with power hub. Lots of $$
Training wheel set up with cover for racing-although I like the Jet 90 and its flexibility in varying conditions. Best $ option
SRM-too much $$$
Quarq-with everything including Garmin over $2k.
Add PT to existing HED 90 and use it for all riding. Possible??

I have looked at this from lots of different angles-hoping someone here could point out an option I have not considered.
Thanks

If the 90 is a clincher than you can have it rebuilt with a PT hub and use it for everything. I have a PT hub in a 808 and have used for everything for a couple of years now, its been fine. I had intended to buy another one in a training wheel but seems like a waste of money at this point.

I would disagree with the Jet 90 being rebuilt with a PT hub since the spokes go through the fairing to the rim.

The holes in the fairing would line up only if the flange sizes were the same on both hubs.

Well than I totally defer to you on that. Never even seen a Hed 90.

I’ve got a PT training wheel that I used with a wheel cover for racing and it worked quite well.

I’ve also got a Jet 90 with a PT built into it. I had HED build it up for me as a brand new wheel. I like it a lot.

If I were to do everything again, I would spend the money on a SRM or a Quarq since I have $2700 wrapped up in my power devices anyway.

My recommendation is to get thee on a phone call posthaste to Rich Sawiris of Wheelbuilder.com, who is quite simply one of the world’s leading authorities on how to build a PT wheel. He’ll be able to walk you through all of the possibilities and options.

Out of curiosity, how much does a Jet 90 with a PT built up into it (from HED directly) cost? Just the rear wheel.

I would disagree with the Jet 90 being rebuilt with a PT hub since the spokes go through the fairing to the rim.

If the flanges aren’t dramatically different it would still work. A bigger possible conflict would be the lacing pattern. It’s probable that the Jet would be laced radially on the non-drive side. Although you could lace a Pt this way, I don’t think it’s recommended. In any case, the answer is to call wheelbuilder-dot-com and ask them if they could do it.

edit:
cramer beat me to it… so x2 on wheelbuilder

I bought mine in 2008…It was $1650

I had to get it from them since there are no Jet 90 650’s anywhere. They told me that it was the first on that they had built.
