Training with mononucleosis strategies

I think picking the remote control off the floor a few times for upper body, and managing to crawl upstairs to my bedroom once a day for legs.

What can I do to work my core, and keep my cardio up?

I hope this is just a cold, but it is looking more and more like mono.

Lift your head off the pillow a few times. That’ll engage the abs
Sorry to hear, Mono sucks. I had it my first year of college. Realized it when I went snowboarding and basically could not remain upright, through i had an inner ear infection, was in enormous internal pain every time i fell. Went to the MD and found out my liver and spleen were huge. There went my season ski lift ticket!
Rest, rest, rest. Don’t forget to eat and drink even if you aren’t hungry.

I have ice cream, I’m all set there.

=)

From personal experience, if it is mono, don’t do anything. The more I did (above 0) the more setbacks ensued.

the best training from mono is napping and napping often. seriously your season is over, take a nap and come back in 6-8 weeks SLOWLY.

If it is mono and you can stay awake more than 8 hours a day, you are doing better than I was for the first 3 weeks, and those hours were spent in bed.
Don’t even think about training until you are over the illness. Your body will tell you when you are ready.

awww that sucks.

((((hugs))))

unless you’re contagious, in which you get no ((((hugs)))) cuz I don’t want tp get sick too.

LOL…you’re all heart
.

well, if I remember correctly, mono’s only contagious if I sent (((kisses))) so (((hugs))) should be good.

Nah, you can totally beat the crap out of mono…

The two weeks up to my first 70.3 race i couldnt motivate myself to do anything and I just slept all the time. I had no idea what was wrong. I went to the race anyway and sucked it up pretty bad. It was the worst I had ever felt. I went to school the next day and then to the doctor because I just wasnt getting any better, and they told me “Dude, you have mono and have probably had it for 2 or 3 weeks now. You should try to stay away from intense physical activity for a while.” Whoops. I felt better like a week later though, so I mustve just had like baby mono or something.

Moral of the story, there is hope. Just pretend like you dont have it and maybe youll just get lucky.

Go to the dr…there is a nasty lingering cold going around right now supposedly. I’ve been sick for 8 days now, but I’m not about to think it is mono!! Mine has probably turned into a sinus infection and bronchitis…but hopefully that will go away with a round of antibiotics.

So all hope may not be lost!

Isometric contractions. Do 90-100 alternating reps per minute for each leg for about 5:30 hours and you can simulate an IM ride.

Hah, I am dealing with mononucleosis for the first time right now. I thought something was wrong back in October when I was running Cross Country races (I run collegiate XC–and triathlon too!) slower than my 6-8 miler summer tempo runs, but was stubborn and pushed through it. Went to the Doc’s two weeks ago and the training had been great since…about 20 hours a day. That is, 20 hours on either the couch or my bed. I’m not getting any quicker/stronger, but in terms of mentally endurance, phhhh, let me tell you what…

yep, its not much fun.

Well the best you can probably due is whine about it and hope it gets your hr up.

I had it when I was 23 and continued to do all my activities. Just got sicker and sicker until I found myself driving on a sidewalk. Had no idea how I got there. Bottomed out at 127 (I’m 5’ 9") losing 30 pounds all because I didn’t want to stop and rest. So I’d just rest and rest and hope you get better. The worst part was I received the wrong diagnosis at first. They almost put me in the hospital until a competent dr stopped by and said oh he has ‘mono’.

I got mono in the middle of lacrosse season in HS. It sucked. Hugely. I did manage to lose about 20 lbs though, since I couldn’t eat. I missed the rest of the season and over a week of school.

It took most of the rest of my Jr. year before I was able to get back into things.

If you have mono, you need rest. If anything, I’d say do yoga/stretching to work on your flexibility. Beyond that, I think you risk prolonging/worsening your condition. Granted, I’m not a MD nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
