Training while taking 2wks course of powerful antibiotics

I’m just beginning my IM training plan and have been prescribed a 2 week course of …

Metronidazole - 4oomg 3 times a day and
Flucloxacillin - 500mg 4 times a day.

For any of you medical professionals out there…

Am I likely to suffer during training or any side effects?

Thanks

I’m a medical UNprofessional. I think you will have higher sun sensitivity, as I recall that as a concern when on ABs. Check into it.

Dizzyness and like the previous person said sun sensitivity.

You would probably have more side effects from whatever you’re being treated for than the antibiotics. What are they for? They cover a broad spectrum. Another risk, in addition to what was posted above, is C. Diff colitis, a condition which occurs when the antibiotics kill the good bugs in your gut as well as the stuff they are meant to kill.

Metro is the first line therapy for C DIff colitis

OK! I’ll bite. What is flucloxacillin. (fluconazone?) I’ve never heard of it. What is being treated?

I’m with you docfuel. What the heck is that? Flagyl, OK, but what the fluc? I’m assuming Dicloxacillin

Yes, that’s true. The combo can still give you C diff colitis - I actually don’t think that any antibiotic is completely free of the complication. Cecil’s says that there are Flagyl resistant C diff around. Don’t tell anyone I’m looking in an internal medicine text, though.

perhaps we should reccomend prophylactic stool enemas… (just kidding)
