Training wheels (1)

I am going to get a new set of training wheels. I rike a km40 and weigh about 185. Is there any reason I should not go with a set of wheels that have a low spoke count? I am thinking of velocity pros and they have 24 in the rear, 20 in the front. It is OK that they are heavr, I use race wheels for events

Thanks!!

I, for some odd reason, never consider being 185 that much of a problem when looking for wheels. I train mostly on Mavic Ksyriums but also use Spinergy Spox and Shimano R535s and will likely take out the new Rolf Vector Pros in the near future too. I don’t think a low spoke count wheel as a trainer is a bad idea…as long as it weighs more than your race wheels. But then again…I might be tempting fate and I shouldn’t say any more. And I don’t think a spoke count of 20/24 is all that low…you should be good.

I weigh 170-175lbs and I use Velocity Spartacus Pros with the higher spoke count (20/24, well, not that high) as my training wheels and I think they’re awesome. They cost well under $300.00, I’ve never had to true them after 3000 + miles, they will spin forever when you have the bike up on a stand, and the black deep rims, spokes and hubs look good. I think they’re the best kept training wheel secret around.
