Ok, the previous analysis that I did between Age and Training Time didn’t really yeild the strong results that I was looking for in a simple regression analysis. As a suggestion by another Slowtwitcher I’m changing the variables to Avg. Training Time and Olymipc Dist. PR Times. I know that there are some Olympic races that vary in distance but I’m not accounting for that. So post away, and hopefully the results will be more informative and interesting link than before and I’ll be sure and post the feedback.D.

I’m 41 yrs. old and that was my first season in the sport.
I’ll have an Olympic distance result for you on 4/2/2006.
age 34, 3.5 hpw max, 2.31 olympic (only one done)
sprint time 1.09 - 1.12 depending on course
.
You’re going to get very varied results, because there isn’t just one factor that determines your race times. The amount of training one does will have a direct impact to a certain point, but genetics also has a say in how fast you are able to go. You could put in 30 hours a week of training, but without the right genetics, you might never crack 2 hours. Similarly, someone with great potential could still race well on very few hours per week.
Anyway, here’s my data:
PR 2:19 (also have only ever done one, and won’t do any more for quite a while)
Hours per week when I hit that time: 8-11
Edit: I’m 24, and my Int’l-distance Du PR is 2:02 (since I’m a duathlete, that’s a better indicator of my strengths)
Wouldn’t gender have an impact here? As well as age?
Chances are the average age 30 dude training 6 hours a week will have a faster average time than the average age 30 chick who trains at the same time.
Could you look at training time and, say, percentage in age group? Or is that not what you’re looking for. I have to admit…it’s been a LONG time since I’ve taken stats.
I think you’re going to need an age correlation in there somewhere to make the numbers work. Also, number of seasons in the biz?
I trained 20-24 hours weekly a few years back and had better results from shorter hours in recent years, but I think the base I achieved back then is making it work now… capiçe?
Anyhoo, 10-12 hours, 2:25, age 55. 2:25 ain’t all that fast, but it got me three AG firsts and one second this year.
I only did one OLY in 2005 in just under 2:31. In the weeks leading up to that race I’d guess that I averaged about 8.5 training hours per week.
I feel I should be capable of going sub 2:25 pretty easily next year if I can just get my ass out of the water in under 30 minutes.
By the way, I’m 50 years old.
My first year last year, and have only done a 1/4 iron, but I converted the distances and would have been around 2:22 in an Olympic.
37 years, male.
I can probably knock about 2 minutes off that simply by finding a softer patch of mud to roll around in while removing the wetsuit, but I guess that is all part of the game.
Well, I’m a long course kind of guy and I’ve only ever done two Olys, but since you need the data…
Age: 28
Av weekly hours: 17.5
Fastest Oly: 2:25
Note that my best 1/2IM is less than double the time of that Oly, which probably means I could go faster at the oly distance.

2:11 on 7.1 hours per week March 1-August 31 (the tri was early September).
You guys are all correct. There are a ton of other factors that I have not included in this analysis like age, gender, genetics ect. All I’m really trying to do here is get a solid correlation between a independent and dependent variable and be able to accurately depict a trend line within the data. Now I’m sure that there are a few Statistics guys out there that would have alot of fun putting together a multiple regression analysis with all of the other variables, but I ain’t one of em’.

Avg weekly hours depend on cycle I’m in but about 13-21 hours.

Age: 35; 2005 average week: 9 hours (12 hours April-July) Posted several 2:11s but the splits vary greatly due to lake conditions, hills, heat, etc.
Haven’t done an Olympic distance race in about 8 yrs. I now concentrate on 1/2 and full IM’s. At that time say age 50-55 my times varied from 2:05 to around 2:12 depending on the difficulty of the course and weather. I still did about the same amount of training as I do now for IM’s. 20-25hr’s per week.
