Training shoes

does anyone train in a racing flat? i was thinking about switching for my regular trainers to something that didnt have so much cushion. i have also been working on my running technique to have a proper stride and foot strike. any suggestions

Check out K-Swiss misole. They have replaceable insoles so they feel like a racing shoe(low to the ground) but still have some support and cushion for long days. On fast or race days you can put the light insole in. I can def feel the differnce running in them.

There are some (including me) who always run in basically the same shoe you’ll race in. Meaning, if you’re an Asics fan, stick with a trainer that’s similar to the racing flat you’ll race in…i.e. don’t train in a shoe that’s ooey-gooey-plushy then race in a flat. Your form will be poop.

Each maker has similar shoes to their racing flats–check online stores like Road Runner Sports and stores that sell TONS of types of shoes. Their online tech people should be able to steer you in the right direction.

Good luck!

I’ve trained in racing flats on and off basically since high school (college now).

As long as you work into minimalism you shouldn’t have any problems with injuries and in all likelihood you will be preventing them.

I’ve had good success with the Adizero line from Adidas. The Adizero RC and RC2 are really great shoes.

I’ve also used DS-Racers (don’t think they make them anymore?), the Saucony Grid Tangent and Saucony Grid Type A. All pretty good shoes.

A kind of cross-over shoe is the Nike Lunar Trainer. I’m wearing them now and really like them. They weigh around 8-9 oz. (pretty light) but have a fairly substantial tread.

Tempo runs and track workouts in racing flats; long endurance runs in more supportive shoes. Shorter races in flats. Half marathon in cushony trainers.
