Training Richmond, VA

Hey All:

I will be in Richmond, VA next week for work staying downtown, and I was hoping someone could enlighten me on places to swim and run.

Thanks,
Pete

Can’t help with the run. There’s a Y at 2 West Franklin with a pool.

There is a great trail system right in downtown richmond. The same trails they use for the Xterra East Championships. Look for Belle and Brown Island. There are a ton of YMCA’s also…lots of places to swim.

lived in Richmond for many years:

swimming: the easiest from downtown is the downtown ymca, but not really the best. I would recommend any of the other area ymcas for better lap swimming, masters groups, etc.

running: lots of great running from downtown

  1. head over to belle island ( adjacent to downtown), go to the back side of the island, and there will be a footbridge that leads to a trail system- take a right ( heading West) and explore. if you need a map you can go to the xterra website
  2. take franklin st westbound, this becomes monument avenue- this is a great way to see richmond.
  3. another road which parallels monument is grove avenue- another great running road which extends 4-5 miles west, and is a great option if you are running at night
  4. go to www.rrrc.org an hook up with a group run if that is more enticing…
