Training question: Run-drive brick

Now that school has started it’s back to getting the kids to all of their activities. it becomes really challenging to workout. Last night I did a 20 minute run between picking my daughter up from play practice and getting my son from football practice. This turned in to about an hour. Then I ran another 30 minutes, hurrying home to make sure the homework was done and everyone was getting ready for bed. This was am easy run as I had done a hard session on the bike trainer in the morning. I know that this is not as good as a solid 50 minute run, is it worth doing at all? Any recommendations on how best to use several broken up periods of time?

You need to lose this family deal, bro.

Scott Tinley once said that there are no such thing as junk miles… you’re being active, you’re burning calories, you’re doing something you love.

Others seriously advocate consistency as a major aspect of improvement in this sport, so that’s another good reason to do what you are doing.

I wouldn’t want to train for an Ironman just by piecing together 20 and 30 minute runs, but if you feel good doing it, have the energy, and feel like it’s worth it TO YOU to be out there, then by all means sqeeze every ounce of training out of your day that you can.

I would say that if you do reach the point where you are feeling fried from training, skip a few of these sessions. On the other hand, sometimes when “life” has me feeling the worst, an easy half-hour through the woods can do wonders.

Enjoy the family; enjoy the training.

God bless.

Umm actually I said that on this very board many months ago.
It was my signature for a bit.
