Training Logs- Yes? No? Maybe?

I use coolrunning.com. It is free, easy to set up and it keeps track of running shoe miles.

I use and recommend the Crosstrak Training Log, www.crosstrak.com or http://cyclecoach.com/?pageID=products#ct. It’s a neat and useful, and you can record details for cycling, swimming, running, weights etc. Works with power output and HR metrics too.

There’s a free version and an enhanced version, which costs $40.

I too use Crosstrak (the free version.) It’s small, intuitive, and relatively painless to operate. It’s much better than my old handwritten paper and calendar logs.

I know that a training log is a good idea, particularly if on a particular training regime. Wish I had the discipline. It’s just too easy for me to bag a run in favor of an extra group ride thus messing up any predetermined training schedule. Used to keep a log for scuba diving but after about 600 dives or so I stopped. They do take a bit of extra effort and time.

always… I find them vital for figuring out what works and what doesn’t. I have logs going back to 1975…

I like it simple, too - a calendar page, with an extra column on the end for tracking weekly totals. The pages are kept in a ring binder. Usually log time, distance, RPE, pulse, weight, hours of sleep.

That said, my current log is actually just a short list of exceptions, since I’m basically doing the same maintenance workouts every week.
