Training logs of elites

Can anyone post links or point me in the general direction of some sites where pros or top age groupers might post there training logs?

I am not sure what it would reveal. It’s pretty simple and straight forward - train long, train hard, rest and repeat over and over and over again, week in week out, month in month out, year in and year out.

I think it’s the simplicity of it all that get’s people confused.

Fleck it is amazing how often the quote "I think it’s the simplicity of it all that get’s people confused. " It’s a great quote. You should put it as your signature line since you use it so often. It would save you some typing since you use it so often.

No takers? More specifically I am looking for the logs of ITU type guys - Olympic distance specialist rather than Ironman types.

Not looking for any secrets or shortcuts, just looking to compare my own volumes/paces etc… to those of people already where I want to be.

Gotta make sure I’m working hard enough.

bevan docherty’s buildup to the worlds was published in a mag here in nz. ill copy it out for you tomorrow if you like.

(he won those worlds)

Justin Maguire III aka Mags 3. He’s pretty smokin fast (9:35 IMLP) and he keeps a pretty good log. Not ITU, but hey beggers can’t be choosers.

Where do you want to be? Where are you now? Maybe post some of your logs and get some comments on them.

Andy Potts spoke at our tri club tonight. This is off the top of my head, but the gist of his training program is about 30 hours/week split out by:

17 hours bike (7 days)
5-6 hours run (6 days)
7-8 hours swim (5 or 6 days)

Not counted in that total is another 2 sessions per week of weight training.

He also estimated how much of his training in each discipline is about LT, but I don’t remember what he said.

One interesting thing he said this that triathlon is a LIFESTYLE. He comes from a swimming background and after missing making the Olympics, went and joined the corporate world but missed the athletic lifestyle. He turned to triathlon and hasn’t looked back.

ST’s “Boz,” who won St. A’s last year and came in 2nd this year posts a training log and schedule here: http://www.5skaggs.com

Also, “Martyg” has his log posted on his site: http://www.martygaal.com/training1.html. By the looks of it though, he’s training for the IMs.

Check out www.gordoworld.com, and check out Gordo’s training diary
.

Thanks. That’s a great idea.

I keep a pretty detailed log on my site www.wimdedoncker.be although I do not consider myself as an “elite”.

Also on www.clasbjorling.com you can find some stuff about the baron’s training. not detailed though.

Thanks for the links, much interesting information to review.

As for myself to the person who asked-

Where I am: New triathlete from surfing and running background. Three races under my belt, two sprints and one Olympic. One year total in the sport in August and about 6 months serious training so far. Currently competative in the overall standings (One win, one 6th and one tenth) in the small races I have tried (100 - 500 people). Capable of 1:00 sprint or 2:05 olympic type times on fair courses.

Where I’d like to be: Competative on a regional rather than local level by years end, hopefully competative nationally with option of racing as a pro within 2 years. Times around :55 and 1:55. Also hopefully attract some sponsorship sometime soon so I can afford larger races.

Training: Only started a log last week but summary of that week as its fairly typical

Running: 30 miles counted at 7:00 pace (ie 210 minutes of running). 1 workout ussually 4 miles broken up at 5:00 to 5:15 pace.

Swimming: About 6000m, normally in quarters and halfs @ approx 5:55 - 6:05 per quarter. 3 workouts total.

Biking: 110 miles. 2 X 1/2hr rides on trainer (~10 miles). 1 long ride 75 miles one short hard ride 15 miles.

Comment away if you like.

Do you have a coach?

Only myself right now, though I do keep some contact with my college running coach. Would love to have a coach again, but it would have to be volunteer or at least on the very cheap.
