Training in UTAH?

Is anybody here from Salt Lake City? My brother is swimming for the University up there and I might plan a high volume training camp up there in the spring.

How is the riding there? When does the snow melt? Any info would be appreciated.

I graduated from the University of Utah, but moved to Europe right after graduating and haven’t been back save one week this past August. If I remember there should be no snow that really impedes your road training after mid April, although there is always a chance for a big snow storm all the way into May. There are a ton of canyon rides, like Emigration Canyon or one up (damn I can’t remember) Beyond that I don’t know too much about the road scene (I was a hardcore mountain biker when I lived there, thought all roadies were the epitome of evil, etc.) I have some friends who run some bike shops and schedule group rides that I could link you up with if you would like.

drop me a line - we are based in SLC…

I lived, raced my bike and went to school for a year in Salt Lake City and it was my favorite place to ride outside of the French Alps. The weather is great every day, once the snow melts, and the roads are much wider than I encountered anywhere in the east. Northern Virginia and Florida were terrible. There are half a dozen canyon climbs out of the Salt Lake Valley and a few more if you ride down to Provo, up to Heber City or do the whole loop past Park City.

Once it cools down in October it is not so fun until March again, but after that you can’t ask for better weather.

in the winter try coming down south to St. George, beautiful weather, beautiful desert, perfect for training. see the st. george tri in May. www.sgtri.com

Oh, I have on several occasions. I lived there spring of '89 and of course it snowed that year. Nothing scarier than St. George drivers in the snow. I loved riding there, especially the loop through Veyo.

My sister is in Washington, so I decided to try the half-iron distance race there last September. To make a long story short, something went wrong and I ended up in the ambulance and then the hospital.
